A genetic testing company is notifying millions about a network intrusion that exposed sensitive medical and personal data.
Baylor Genetics says an unauthorized third party accessed portions of its network between June 11 and June 17.
According to Gulf Coast NBC, the incident was reported to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as affecting 2,810,878 individuals.
Potentially exposed information included names, dates of birth, addresses, laboratory results, diagnoses, medical conditions and Social Security numbers for a limited subset of patients.
State impacts include 248,430 residents in Texas, 56,636 in Massachusetts, 50,495 in Illinois, 27,243 in Washington, 2,630 in Vermont, and 4,532 in Rhode Island.
The company identified suspicious activity around June 15, completed a review of affected data around July 30, and began sending notification letters on Aug. 14.
Baylor Genetics addressed the incident in its official notice, saying laboratory operations continue without interruption.
“The investigation determined that an unauthorized third party accessed certain portions of our network, and certain data stored on our network, between June 11 and June 17, 2026.”
The company says it is not aware of any confirmed identity theft, fraud or misuse of personal information related to this incident.
