A Subway customer is publicly challenging an employee over an alleged fee for toasting bread at the fast-food outlet.
The dispute at a Subway in Laguna Hills, California turned into a tense exchange that’s going viral on TikTok, with the customer directly accusing the worker of inventing an extra cost.
“Never in the history of me going to Subway have they ever charged a toast. Toast is free… No, no, no. They don’t do that, bro. You making up stuff, bro.”
In the comments, several people say they’ve experienced Subway charging extra to toast sandwiches, and a worker said that has been the rule for more than 20 years.
Another person said no matter what, the customer was wrong to yell at the worker because they don’t set the prices.

Subway does not have a company-wide extra fee to toast sandwiches, and most stores toast them for free.
However, some individual stores do charge extra, and the move comes from the franchise owner or from how the store rings up hot vs. cold food for tax purposes.
