Appeal to raise £40k after Liverpool founder suffers serious fall

11-Sep-2025

An appeal is looking to raise £40,000 to support the recovery of a Liverpool founder who suffered a serious fall in April.

Raina Heverin was left fighting for her life following the accident in Paris. The JustGiving target was initially set at £15,000 but has now been extended to £40,000 after it quickly surpassed more than £14k from almost 300 supporters.

Raina is an experienced recruiter who set up SupplyWell in 2017 with husband Mike and schoolfriend Dan to make a difference in education. Two years later she would found ReCulture to ‘do recruitment differently’ – matching people and opportunities on culture as well as skills.

Last year she offered advice to more than 20 businesses on the ‘people’ masterclass at our FUEL Liverpool event. Raina was also set to speak at this year’s event before tragedy struck on what should have been a joyful weekend abroad with her brother and sister-in-law.

The JustGiving page, set up by Rachel Bryan, says: “If you know Raina, you’ll know her smile, her laugh, and the way her energy fills a room. She is the person who brings people together, a loving mum, wife, sister, daughter and friend who makes life brighter for everyone around her.

“And if you haven’t met her, we want to tell you about her, because Raina has a way of inspiring people. Her kindness, her humour, and her determination leave a mark that lasts.

“On 26 April 2025, everything changed. What should have been a joyful weekend in Paris with her brother and sister-in-law turned into a nightmare. Raina suffered a devastating fall that left her fighting for her life. She was in and out of a coma for almost three weeks, unable to breathe without machines keeping her alive. She spent 27 days in intensive care. Alongside a traumatic brain injury, she had a shattered forearm, a broken hip, multiple broken ribs and internal trauma.

“For 8 long weeks she remained in hospital in Paris, separated from her two young children, fighting for her life, before she was finally strong enough to come back to Liverpool. But coming home was only the beginning.

“Raina returned incredibly weak, unable to stand, and needing to learn how to talk and walk again. She needed help with even the most basic of tasks. Yet she had already survived the hardest part. With her courage and determination, she began the long road to recovery, supported by the team at Broadgreen hospital, where she has been receiving care for more than two months since leaving Paris.

“Since returning to Liverpool she has worked tirelessly through intensive rehabilitation with extraordinary courage. Speech and language therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychological support are now part of her everyday life, all demanding immense effort after the trauma Raina’s mind and body has endured. Each week brings small steps forward, and little by little, she is reclaiming parts of herself. But it is still an uphill climb. She lives with overwhelming fatigue, cannot yet walk on her own, and relies on others for many aspects of daily life.

“Even with these challenges, Raina’s fight never fades. She faces every session with one purpose, to be a mummy to her two young children, whom she misses so deeply, and to return to her husband Michael.

“The road ahead is long, and Raina cannot do it alone. She will need ongoing continuous therapy and specialist equipment to rebuild her independence. Every rehabilitation session she needs costs over £100 an hour, and mobility aids and equipment run into the thousands.

“Raina is strong, brave and full of love. We, her family and friends, could not be prouder of all she has already overcome. With your help, she can keep moving forward, towards recovery, towards independence, and towards the life she deserves to live.

“After 4 and a half months in hospital, her goal is simple: to be home with her family, to walk hand in hand and play with her children.

💜 Please, if you can, donate today to support Raina’s rehabilitation. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a real difference.

“This money will be vitally important helping to complete home adaptations including wetroom, carers costs, physio and rehabilitation and mobility equipment.”

Sarah O’Brien, head of growth & strategy, will head up ReCulture for the foreseeable future.
