How to Become a Copy Leader on BitMEX: A Step-by-Step Guide

Before becoming a Copy Leader, it’s essential to familiarise yourself with the Copy Leader Rulebook. Built on a foundation of user protection and robust security since 2014, BitMEX maintains stringent standards for every participant.

If you have a verified BitMEX account, you’re ready to start your journey as a Copy Leader:

Start Creating Your Copy Leader Profile:
- Navigate to the ‘Copy Leader Details’ button at the top of the Copy Trading Marketplace on BitMEX
- Click on ‘Create New Copy Leader Account’. You can set up multiple Copy Leader profiles if you wish.

2. Fill in Your Profile Details:

Leader Name & Avatar	This name and profile picture will be publicly displayed on the marketplace, representing your trading persona.	Name: James Wynn 2.0 Avatar: (a picture of a dog)
Profile message	This message will be publicly displayed to any visitors to your Copy Leader profile. You may mention your trading strategies, risk approach, target markets, or other details you think visitors should want to know.	Focus: BTC/USDT. Leverage disciplined technical analysis combined with on-chain metrics. My goal is steady, compounding gains through all market cycles. I am a Top 20 PnL trader on the BitMEX leaderboard.
Amount	The trading balance to allocate to your Copy Leader account from your main account. *Note: After inputting your copy trading balance, the funds will be automatically transferred into your dedicated Copy Trading Sub Account. You do not need to manually transfer funds from your main BitMEX account.	N/A
Minimum Copy Trader Balance	The minimum amount of assets required for a Copier to start following your trades. *Note: Copy Trader Balance must not exceed the starting capital of the Copy Leader.	N/A
Profit Share Ratio	Copy Leaders receive a share of the Copier’s profits. It serves as a direct reward for the Copy Leader’s expertise and profitability.	Example: 15% (This means for every 100 USDT net profit the Copier makes from futures trading, the Leader receives 15 USDT).

3. Finalise Creation:

- After filling in all required fields and reviewing your settings, click the ‘Start Copy Leading’ button.
- Your Copy Leader profile will be successfully created, and you’ll be redirected to your Copy Leader List page with a success message.

4. Start Trading in Your Copy Leader Account:

- Click ‘Trade’ on the Copy Leader interface to redirect you to your trading terminal or select your Copy Leader account from the Sub Account menu.
- You can then execute trades as you normally would. Any trades you make in this specific Copy Leader account will be copied by your followers. Trades executed in your other BitMEX accounts will not be copied or visible to them.

Managing Your Copy Leader Profiles and Earnings

BitMEX provides a comprehensive interface to manage your Copy Leader profiles, track performance, and adjust settings.

Copy Leader List Page

This page allows you to view data for both your active (Running) and ended (Stopped) Copy Leader profiles.

Running Tab (Active Leaders):

If you have active Copy Leaders, you’ll see the total current Profit Sharing and Assets Under Management (AUM) across all your active leaders.
A summary of each active Copy Leader is displayed, showing key performance metrics.
‘Stop Copy Leading’ button: to close your Copy Leader profile and ongoing trades for your Copiers.
‘See More’ button: to view additional details such as Profit Sharing Scale and edit your profile settings.
‘Create New Copy Leader Account’ button: to create a new Copy Leader profile.

Stopped Tab (Ended Leaders):

If you have stopped a Copy Leader profile, you’ll see the Profit Sharing earned for each.
‘See More’ button: Takes you to the details page for the selected stopped leader, showing data from the time it was ended.

Copy Leader Detail Page

This page offers a comprehensive view of an active Copy Leader profile, allowing you to update settings or end the leader.

Use the “See my Public Profile” button to check how others see your public Copy Leader profile.
“Stop Copy Leading” button allows you to end the active Copy Leader and close all positions.
View detailed charts showing your Copy Leader’s Profit Sharing performance.
Manage and modify your Copy Leader’s settings and profile information (e.g., profit sharing percentage).

Stopping a Copy Leader

When you click the “Stop Copy Leading” button, a Leader Resignation popup will appear. Clicking the “Resign” button in this popup will terminate the Copy Leader. After stopping, the Copy Leader’s remaining balance will be automatically transferred back to your main account.

Key Information for Copy Leaders

Minimum Deposit: The minimum deposit requirement to start Copy Trading as a Copy Leader on BitMEX is USD100 in USDT, BTC, or BMEX.
Profit Calculation: You will only receive a profit share from your Copiers if they make actual profits from your copied trades under their Copier account. To learn more about the profit share mechanism, read here.
Maximum Copiers: Currently, there is a limit of 50 Copiers per Copy Leader. This limit is expected to increase quickly based on user feedback, allowing you to scale your earning potential further.

Win/Loss Ratio	Win: The ratio of the trades with realised earnings is greater than 0 Loss: The ratio of the trades with realized earnings is less than 0	A Copy Leader with a Win/Loss Ratio of 65% means 65 out of every 100 trades they execute are profitable.
Maximum Drawdown (MDD)	The maximum observed loss from a peak to a trough of a portfolio, before a new peak is attained	If a portfolio peaked at $1,000 and then dropped to $700 before recovering, the MDD would be 30%.
Hold Average	The average time a token is held before a trade is made.	A “Hold Average” of 4 days means the Copy Leader typically keeps their positions open for about 4 days.
Assets under management (AUM)	The amount of capital managed by the Copy Leader. This includes the Leaders and the Copiers’ capital.	If a Copy Leader has $10,000 of their own capital and is being copied by users who have committed $90,000 in total, their AUM would be $100,000. A higher AUM often indicates trust and confidence from a larger number of Copiers.
Profit Sharing	The amount of profit distributed to the Copy Leader.	If a Copy Leader sets a 20% profit share and your copy trade generates $100 in net profit, $20 will be distributed to the Copy Leader, and you will receive $80.
Return on Investments (ROI)	A percentage that shows the profitability of your Copy Trading position compared to the amount of capital you committed. ROI = (Net Profit / Cost of Investment) * 100.	If you commit $500 to a copy trade and it generates a net profit of $100, your ROI for that trade is (100 / 500) * 100 = 20%.
Deposits	The amount of capital the Copy Leader deposits into their account.	The Copy Leader initially allocated 1,000 USDT. His initial deposit will be 1,000 USDT. Later added another 200 USDT, their total Deposits would be 1,200 USDT.
Withdrawals	The total amount of capital that has been moved out of a Copy Leader’s or your Copy Trading account.	If the Copy Leader initiated a copy trade with $1,000 and later withdrew $300, their total Withdrawals would be $300.
Initial Balance	The starting amount of capital in a Copy Leader’ account when it was first established.	When you first set up a copy leader account and commit $500, your Initial Balance for that specific copy trade is $500. If you add more later, your initial balance will still remain $500.
