Morph Expands Into Dual-Chain Ecosystem With Tachyon Layer 1 Powering Trading And Derivatives Markets

Blockchain network Morph introduced Morph Tachyon, an independent Layer 1 blockchain engineered specifically for trading and high-performance onchain markets. This development transforms the organization from a single general-purpose network into a broader financial ecosystem.

The existing Ethereum Layer 2 infrastructure will maintain its focus on payments, stablecoin operations, and open finance, while the new chain creates a specialized environment for trading activities. Together, these networks now cover the complete spectrum of onchain financial services, allowing users to settle transactions on one platform while executing trades on another, all within the Morph ecosystem.

The rationale behind constructing a dedicated trading chain stems from fundamental infrastructure differences between payment systems and live marketplaces. Active trading platforms must simultaneously process order submissions, cancellations, matches, position adjustments, margin updates, oracle feeds, and liquidation events, particularly during periods of elevated volatility.

General-purpose blockchains often force trading applications to compromise on speed, transparency, or usability, resulting in slower order updates, delayed cancellations, uncertain settlements, and inconsistent execution during fast market movements. Morph Tachyon addresses these challenges by operating as a standalone Layer 1 with independent consensus, settlement, and state mechanisms, ensuring trading applications have dedicated blockspace rather than competing with unrelated network activity.

“Morph Tachyon is an important step forward for the Morph ecosystem. Payments and trading are both core parts of onchain finance, but they need different infrastructure. Rather than asking every app to use the same setup, we are building dedicated systems that fit how these markets work,” said Renna Ba, Head of Ecosystem at Morph in a written statement. “PopDEX is an important first demonstration of what can be built on Tachyon, and we look forward to welcoming more trading platforms, market makers, and partners to join the network,” she added.

Technical Architecture and First Adoption

Morph Tachyon is architected to support order-book exchanges and other applications requiring rapid, high-volume transaction processing. The network targets block times of approximately 200 milliseconds and can handle up to 200,000 transactions per second. It delivers instant finality without block reorganizations through a consensus mechanism derived from HotStuff BFT.

The platform eliminates gas fees for trading operations, removing the requirement for users to manage native tokens when placing or cancelling orders and managing positions. Additionally, the chain employs a custom EVM-compatible architecture that supports standard wallets, address formats, JSON-RPC interfaces, and existing developer tools.

The infrastructure extends beyond decentralized exchanges to serve market makers, quantitative trading firms, vault builders, brokers, liquidity providers, and analytics platforms. PopDEX, a decentralized perpetual exchange designed for active traders, has selected Morph Tachyon as its underlying infrastructure. Perpetual markets generate continuous state changes through order management, matching, position tracking, margin adjustments, and automated execution.

PopDEX selected this network because it prioritizes trading workloads rather than treating them as secondary to other activities. Instant finality ensures transactions settle immediately without additional confirmations, which proves critical for quote updates, cancellations, margin changes, position modifications, and liquidations. The high throughput capacity accommodates sustained activity from traders, automated systems, and market makers. Morph and PopDEX are collaborating to advance onchain derivatives infrastructure with an emphasis on execution quality, liquidity depth, and capital efficiency throughout the ecosystem.
