Costco is accused of misleading customers by marketing its Kirkland Signature Nature’s Domain grain-free dog food as healthy and safe while allegedly concealing potential cardiac risks to pets.
A proposed class action lawsuit filed in late June 2026 that points to scientific studies linking grain-free diets high in certain ingredients to dilated cardiomyopathy, a potentially fatal heart condition in dogs, reports The Seattle Times.
The suit also references a 2019 FDA investigation into 16 brands, including some grain-free formulas, for possible connections to the disease.
Plaintiffs argue the product was advertised without adequate warnings, leading consumers to purchase it under false pretenses about its safety.
The complaint seeks damages for pet owners who bought the food believing it posed no unusual health threats.
