Crypto Hack News: 42DAO Exploit, BLC Price Crash, and the Team Silence

Crypto hack news today highlights a major stablecoin crash through the 42DAO exploit. PeckShieldAlert reported today that attackers hit 42DAO's Balance Protocol on BNB Chain for about $915,000. The attack sent the Balance Coin price ($BLC) crashing almost 99% within hours, from nearly $1 down to $0.001357.

42DAO Exploit Today

42DAO Exploit Explained: What Happened?

42DAO runs the Balance Protocol on the BNB Chain. The project built $BLC as a "Stable Core" algorithmic stablecoin. The coin meant to hold near $1 through a vault system similar to MakerDAO, where vaults hold collateral, mostly BTCB, to back the token.

The attacker pushed a fake, extremely low BTCB price through the Spotter module. That fake price triggered the Dog module, the part of the system that handles liquidations.

In one single transaction, several BTCB vaults liquidated at prices far below their real value, and the attacker walked away with the collateral, as per SlowMist findings.

Following PeckShield and SlowMist cover on the crypto hack news, TenArmor backed up the same findings soon after. All three security firms point to the same root problem: an oracle and liquidation setup with no checks in place.

Balance Coin Crypto Hack News: Full Breakdown of Losses and Key Details

Here's what's confirmed so far in Balance coin hack today:

  • Amount drained: about $915,000 (some reports list a range of $912K to $915K)

  • Attacker wallet: 0x9d8dd9f2d734675e2bfcc142d1c7a45609ca213c

  • Vulnerable contracts: the Spotter module, the Dog module, and the main vault contract

  • Missing safeguards: no price deviation limits, no minimum price floor, no liquidation delay

  • Stolen funds: swapped for USDT and BTCB through PancakeSwap

$BLC Price Crash: Current BNB Chain Market Data and Volume

Following the crypto hack news, $BLC now trades around $0.00135, still down close to 99% for the day. Trading volume spiked hard during the crash as panic selling took hold.

BNB Chain's main token barely moved through all this. BNB sits around $567, slightly down with the 42DAO exploit news. Stablecoins like USDT and USDC on the same chain held their $1 peg the entire time.

This crash stands out because $BLC was built as a stablecoin, not a meme token. MakerDAO on Ethereum runs stronger price checks and emergency stops, and that gap explains why one system held steady while the other lost almost everything in hours.

User Impact and Team Response After the Balance Coin Hack Update

$BLC holders lost most of their money almost instantly. Vault owners and liquidity providers face the heaviest losses, since their collateral got liquidated at fake, manipulated prices.

Anyone using $BLC for payments or as collateral inside the 42DAO ecosystem should expect delays or broken features for now. Recovery odds stay low unless someone freezes the attacker's funds, and that rarely happens on an open chain like BNB Chain.

42DAO has stayed silent since the attack. Its X account, @42dao_official, has not posted anything addressing the hack, and no compensation plan or bug bounty has come out yet.

Some community members call it a straightforward exploit, others suspect a rug pull, and without a statement from the team, that debate keeps going.

Crypto Hack 2026 Keep Growing: A Look at Recent DeFi Exploits in 2026

42DAO is not an isolated case of the 2026 crypto hack news. DeFi has had a rough stretch in 2026:

  • KelpDAO lost $290 million on April 18, 2026, after an attacker minted fake rsETH tokens and borrowed real ETH against them

  • Ostium, a perpetuals exchange on Arbitrum, lost $18 million in July 2026 after an attacker faked oracle price reports

  • Summer.fi lost about $6 million in early July 2026 after a manipulated yield display let an attacker drain funds

  • Total DeFi losses across 2026 have already passed $840 million, based on data tracked by DeFiLlama

Oracle manipulation keeps showing up as the common thread across these cases. Attackers don't need to break the code; they just need to feed it a price it trusts but shouldn't.

What Comes Next for 42DAO and the Wider DeFi Security Space Ahead

42DAO's next move matters more than anything said so far. A public statement, a security audit, or a plan to help affected users would go a long way toward rebuilding trust. Silence only feeds the rug pull theory further.

BNB Chain projects running similar vault designs should expect closer audits after this case. Price checks and liquidation delays cost little to add, and this exploit just showed what happens without them.
