Ethereum News: AFX Trade Hack, Triple-A Exploit and THORChain ETH Swap

ETH current price is sitting at $1,856.90 today — down 1.35% — but 24-hour trading volume has dropped a much sharper 30.03%. If you're timing an entry or exit, a volume drop this steep alongside a modest price dip usually means something specific about market conviction right now.

Here's what the full data — market cap, supply, and the chart's recent swing — actually says about where the coin stands.

What Happened to ETH Today

AFX Trade Hack: ETH Being Swapped to BTC

The AFX Trade bridge was hacked two days ago, resulting in the theft of 24.15 million USDC, according to on-chain analyst EmberCN. The stolen USDC was subsequently converted into 12,467.4 ETH.

Roughly one hour before this report, the hacker began moving funds again — this time swapping ETH for BTC through the decentralized cross-chain protocol THORChain.

So far, 655.4 ETH has been converted into 18.86 BTC, with the majority of the stolen coins still sitting in the hacker's wallet. The swap appears deliberate and gradual, a pattern often used to avoid triggering exchange alerts while laundering large sums across chains.

BlackRock Clients Reportedly Sell $52.76M in ETH

A crypto alert account,  BSCGemsAlert, claimed BlackRock clients sold $52.76 million worth of ETH, posting an image of CEO Larry Fink beside the Ethereum logo.

Interestingly, the figure closely matches separately reported net inflows of $52.79 million into BlackRock's ETHA spot Ethereum ETF on July 21, 2026.

The near-identical numbers raise the possibility that the claim is a mislabeled reference to ETF inflow data rather than an actual client sell-off. No official confirmation from BlackRock has been issued regarding either figure, leaving the true nature of this reported flow unresolved for now.

Whale Deposits $39.2M Into Aave, Zero Borrowed

An on-chain wallet supplied $39.2 million in assets to Aave and enabled them as collateral over a two-hour window, according to tracker OnchainLens.

The position includes 18,000 ETH (worth roughly $33.4 million) and 5.78 million USDC, deposited into Aave's Core Instance at an estimated 1.76% APY.

Notably, the wallet currently has $0 borrowed against this collateral, suggesting a yield-focused move rather than an active leveraged trade. Dashboard data confirms multiple WETH, USDT, and USDC deposits throughout the window, marking one of the more sizable single-wallet ETH allocations into DeFi lending recorded recently.

Triple-A Hack: $9.7M Stolen, Deposits Still Open

Crypto commentator @MasterCryptoHq flagged a hot wallet breach at Triple-A, with hackers stealing roughly $9.7 million across TRON, Ethereum, and Solana.

The stolen funds were bridged and consolidated into a single Ethereum address, now holding 5,227 ETH. The most concerning detail is that deposits to Triple-A reportedly remained open more than eight hours after the breach, meaning new user funds could still be flowing into a compromised system.

On-chain analysts, including PeckShield, have reviewed the incoming transfers. As of this report, Triple-A's team has issued no official statement addressing the crypto hack.

Why It Matters for Traders

  • The AFX Trade and Triple-A hacks highlight ongoing bridge and hot-wallet risks, with Triple-A's "deposits still open" status raising real exposure concerns for platform users.

  • The unresolved BlackRock Ethereum sale claim shows why institutional ETF flow data needs verification — a mislabeled figure can trigger unwarranted selling pressure or panic.

  • The whale's $39.2 million Aave deposit, made without any borrowing, signals continued confidence among large holders in parking capital directly rather than exiting to stablecoins.

  • A 30% single-day drop in trading volume alongside a modest price dip points to thin conviction on both the buy and sell side right now.

  • With consolidating just under $1,900, this is a moment for traders to watch key support and resistance levels closely, while investors weigh whether whale accumulation or hack-driven fear shapes the next move.

Conclusion

In the latest crypto news today, ETH's price today reflects a market in consolidation rather than sharp directional conviction — a modest dip paired with a steep drop in trading volume. With the token holding just under $1,900 after recovering from June's lows, the next meaningful move may hinge on whether volume returns in the coming sessions.
