HashKey Exchange Adds JPMorgan Banking Channel, Advancing Hong Kong Licensed Crypto Sector’s Global Financial Connectivity

HashKey Exchange, the licensed trading platform operated by Hong Kong-listed HashKey Holdings Limited, has received approval from JPMorgan to open a client funds account. The company described HashKey Exchange as the first licensed digital asset exchange in Asia to secure this type of arrangement with the major global bank, though this characterization remains a company claim.

The approval is expected to deepen the exchange’s integration with international mainstream banking infrastructure and enhance the stability, transparency, and institutional reliability of its U.S. dollar funding channels.

According to the announcement, the account will facilitate settlement services for institutional clients and investors while ensuring customer funds remain segregated from HashKey’s operating capital. This structure aligns with Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission requirements that licensed virtual asset trading platforms maintain foreign currency client money in separately denominated accounts.

HashKey Exchange chief executive Ru Haiyang characterized the approval as a milestone in establishing institutional-grade dollar settlement and client asset isolation frameworks, noting that banking connectivity, clearing capabilities, and compliance governance have become essential foundations for regulated platforms serving institutional market participants.

Strategic Banking Integration and Outstanding Implementation Questions

The JPMorgan approval follows HashKey’s June 30 activation of a customer funds account with Singapore-based DBS Bank, giving the exchange parallel links to major Asian and U.S. dollar clearing networks. The development comes after HashKey’s December 2025 initial public offering in Hong Kong, which raised approximately $206 million and counted JPMorgan among its joint sponsors. The two entities also collaborate within a Hong Kong Monetary Authority working group examining infrastructure for tokenized bonds.

Despite its symbolic significance, the announcement confirms only authorization to open the account rather than the commencement of live customer deposits and withdrawals. HashKey has not disclosed an activation timeline, specified which currencies will be available at launch, or indicated whether access will initially be limited to institutional clients.

Furthermore, the account does not expand the exchange’s virtual asset licensing scope or enable services for restricted U.S. customers; its purpose remains strictly to add a regulated fiat banking channel. While the approval signals progress in connecting Hong Kong’s licensed digital asset sector with global financial infrastructure, the next verified milestone will be the account’s operational activation and demonstrated transaction capability.
