The South Korean technology conglomerate Samsung is currently negotiating to inject approximately €1 billion into Mistral, a French artificial intelligence venture, according to a Wednesday report from the Financial Times. The proposed funding round could establish Mistral’s worth at around €20 billion ($22.81 billion).
Reuters indicated it was unable to independently confirm the Financial Times reporting.
If completed, this valuation would mark a dramatic increase from the €11.7 billion figure Mistral commanded during its €1.7 billion Series C financing completed in September 2025—effectively doubling within less than twelve months.
Shares of Samsung Electronics (005930) advanced 0.58% when the news surfaced.

Mistral emerged in 2023, founded by veteran researchers who previously worked at Google DeepMind and Meta. Operating from Paris, the firm specializes in developing sophisticated large language models and artificial intelligence platforms. It has positioned itself as Europe’s premier domestically-developed challenger to American AI powerhouses including OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google.
Samsung isn’t the sole major technology corporation strengthening its relationship with Mistral. Microsoft has independently finalized a strategic partnership with the AI company, pledging billions of dollars toward constructing and enhancing computing infrastructure throughout the European continent.
Microsoft makes Mistral’s artificial intelligence models available via its Azure cloud computing platform, providing the French startup with entry to an extensive global enterprise client network.
Additionally, Mistral secured $830 million in debt financing this March, earmarked specifically for developing data center facilities in France and Sweden.
These negotiations unfold against a backdrop of European corporations and governments actively working to create artificial intelligence infrastructure with reduced reliance on American technology providers.
Mistral has embraced this strategic positioning, marketing itself as a sovereign European artificial intelligence solution suitable for corporate and governmental clients.
Samsung’s reported €1 billion capital commitment would represent among its most substantial investments in European artificial intelligence ventures to date.
The Financial Times published its report on July 22, 2026. At press time, neither Samsung nor Mistral had released official statements regarding the potential investment.
Microsoft’s engagement with Mistral continues expanding, with the technology giant having already pledged significant capital toward wider European AI infrastructure development.
