MetaMask and Optimism Introduce Game-Changing Wallet Permission Model

10-Apr-2026 Crypto Economy

Optimism announced that agents and decentralized applications can now request execution permissions over wallets directly on OP Mainnet. The update uses the ERC-7715 standard, a permission-based execution standard that enables more granular control over the actions that agents and dApps can perform with user wallets.

The change was implemented through the MetaMask integration, which enabled developers to request those permissions using ERC-7715 on the Optimism network. Unlike the traditional model, where transaction approvals operate in a binary fashion, the new scheme allows for more sophisticated permission frameworks, tailored to the specific needs of each application or agent operating on the protocol.

This update expands the capabilities of applications built on Optimism and will give rise to new interaction models between users, dApps, and autonomous agents. No date has been confirmed yet for a broader expansion of support beyond OP Mainnet.
