The acquisition is part of an aggressive treasury buildout overseen by Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin, who has set out to make SharpLink the fastest-growing ETH holder in the market.
Lubin believes the company can accumulate more Ether per fully diluted share than any other Ethereum-focused entity. To facilitate its latest buy, SharpLink transferred $55 million in USDC to centralized exchanges through Galaxy Digital.
In a public statement, the firm described Ethereum as “the base layer for a trillion-dollar digital economy,” emphasizing that adoption is still in its early stages. SharpLink currently ranks second among ETH treasury holders, trailing only Bitmine Technologies, according to Standard Chartered data. The bank estimates that ETH treasury firms now collectively hold around $10 billion in assets, much of it accumulated in the past two months.
The timing of SharpLink’s purchase comes as ETH has retreated from a failed push above $4,000, dropping 12.5% to the $3,500 range. Friday also saw the first spot Ethereum ETF outflows in 20 days, signaling a slight shift in sentiment. However, market analysts view the retracement as a healthy pause after July’s 60% surge, predicting a consolidation phase before a renewed push toward all-time highs.
If corporate buyers continue to soak up supply during the pullback, this correction could lay the groundwork for a sharper rally later in the year—especially if macroeconomic conditions turn more favorable for risk assets.
