Sam Bankman-Fried has surprisingly resurfaced on social media. This morning, a simple “gm” post, short for “good morning,” racked up 6.5 million views within hours.

While this sparked widespread reactions on X, it was later clarified that the tweet was posted by a friend on his behalf, sparking curiosity across the crypto community.

Currently, SBF is serving his 25-year federal prison sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Terminal Island in Los Angeles, California.

Could This Be a Pardon Push?

The short post triggered a wide range of reactions across the crypto community. Analyst Conor Grogan suggested it could be a PR move, writing that this might be the start of a campaign to get Sam pardoned.

SBF and his supporters, including his parents, have been pushing for a presidential pardon. Notably, President Trump has previously granted clemency to high-profile figures like the Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht.

From Meme Jabs to Harsh Criticism

Reactions from the crypto community came fast and they weren’t light.

Arthur Hayes weighed in with a humorous jab, asking “Wen memecoin?”. This was likely in reference to the typical pump-and-dump hype around meme-based crypto tokens, which often appear tied to famous names and are quickly dumped by insiders.

ZachXBT, an on-chain investigator, also reacted in a now-deleted post, condemning SBF’s actions as causing extreme harm and stated that he “deserves zero human rights.”

FTT Soars Over 50%

Following the news of SBF’s social media activity, FTT token rose over 50% to around $1.20 within minutes. However, it has since retraced.

SBF’s account has been active occasionally this year, posting cryptic threads. His profile notes that the account is shared by a friend, keeping the crypto community guessing about his intentions.

FTX Payouts Resume

This comes just days before FTX advances to the next stage of its bankruptcy process.

Starting September 30, creditors will receive $1.6 billion through BitGo, Kraken, and Payoneer, with funds hitting verified accounts within three business days.

U.S. customers will get 40%, bringing total recoveries to 95%. International “dotcom” users see a 6% boost, raising payouts to 78%. Unsecured and loan claims get 24%, and convenience claims are even paid above face value at 120%. Overall, more than $6 billion has now been returned.

SBF was convicted on seven felony counts including fraud, conspiracy and money laundering. His appeal is scheduled for November 4, nearly two years after FTX’s collapse.
