Airbus (EADSY) stock climbed 3.4% to a session high in New York on Tuesday after the planemaker laid out an ambitious mid-term financial plan at an investor event in London.
The company set an adjusted EBIT target of €12–13 billion for 2029. That compares to €7.13 billion generated in 2025 and a 2026 target of €7.5 billion — making the 2029 goal a near-doubling in operating profit over four years.
The €/$ exchange rate assumption baked into the 2029 target is 1.22. Airbus also reiterated a cash conversion target of around 1 over a five-year horizon.
The investor update was led by CEO Guillaume Faury and other senior management. Topics covered included the Commercial Aircraft, Helicopters, and Defence and Space divisions.
The board approved a €5 billion buyback programme to be executed over three years. Management will implement it within board-approved terms, subject to ongoing shareholder approval.
Airbus’s commercial aircraft business is expected to account for around €10 billion of the 2029 operating profit total. J.P. Morgan analysts had flagged earlier this month that this level was achievable within three years.
Getting there depends on lifting aircraft deliveries to meet strong airline demand. Supply chain disruptions and engine shortages have weighed on output across the aerospace sector, and Airbus is working to move past those constraints.
This is the first time Airbus has provided a medium-term profit target at a business update. The company did not offer one at its equivalent event a year ago.
The 2026 outlook remains unchanged. The company noted its guidance assumes no further disruptions to global trade, air traffic, the supply chain, or internal operations.
It also assumes trade regulations and tariffs stay stable. The outlook does not account for any potential M&A activity.
At the time of the investor event on Tuesday, Airbus stock was trading up 4.91% on the day.
