Apple (AAPL) Plans to Let Gemini and Claude Work With Siri in iOS 27

TLDR

  • Apple plans to open Siri to third-party AI services like Google’s Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude, according to Bloomberg.
  • The change is expected to arrive with iOS 27, set to be previewed at WWDC in June 2025.
  • Users will be able to choose which AI service handles each request directly from within Siri.
  • Apple could generate extra revenue by taking a cut of subscriptions sold through third-party AI apps.
  • A standalone Siri app and an “Ask Siri” button are also reportedly in the works for iOS 27.

Apple is reportedly planning to open Siri up to competing AI services, a move that would mark a clear shift in how the company approaches its AI platform.

According to Bloomberg, the update is expected to land with iOS 27. It would let apps from third-party AI providers — including Google’s Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude — plug directly into Siri, so users can route requests to whichever service they prefer.

Apple currently has a deal with OpenAI that lets ChatGPT integrate with Siri. When Siri needs to hand off to ChatGPT, it prompts users to confirm before sharing anything. Apple signaled at the time that more AI partners would follow — and now it looks like that’s happening.

The wider access would turn the iPhone into a more open AI platform, letting users pick from a menu of AI assistants rather than being locked into one provider.

Revenue Angle

Apple isn’t just doing this out of goodwill. The company is reportedly looking to take a cut of any subscriptions sold through third-party AI apps that integrate with Siri — the same model it uses with the App Store.

That means Siri could become a distribution layer for AI services, with Apple sitting in the middle collecting a percentage. It’s a familiar playbook.

The tools to enable this are being developed under Apple Intelligence, the company’s broader AI platform that launched last year. Developers would build their apps to work within that framework.

WWDC Preview Expected in June

Apple is expected to show off the new features at its Worldwide Developers Conference, which runs from June 8 to June 12. The keynote is scheduled for June 8.

That’s when Apple typically previews the next major versions of iOS, macOS, and its other operating systems for developers. iOS 27 would be the main focus.

Bloomberg notes the plans could still change before then — so nothing is final until Apple makes it official on stage.

Alongside the Siri AI expansion, a standalone Siri app and a new “Ask Siri” button are also reportedly being developed for iOS 27, based on earlier this week’s reports.

Apple has not yet responded to requests for comment on any of these reports.
