Apple (AAPL) Stock: iPhone Duo Foldable and iPhone 18 Pro Unveiled at John Ternus’s First Event

Apple’s annual fall event on September 9 delivered a packed lineup, headlined by the iPhone Duo, the company’s first-ever foldable device, priced at $1,999.

New CEO John Ternus took the stage for his first launch event since officially replacing Tim Cook last week. Ternus, Apple’s former SVP of hardware engineering, described the iPhone Duo as the “thinnest” iPhone yet, despite housing a large 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer display.

The Duo lets users continue using features as it is flipped or reoriented and allows quick toggling between apps. Apple Pencil support is coming later this year. Preorders open October 16, with public availability on October 23.

iPhone 18 Pro Pricing Gets a Bump

The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 and the Pro Max at $1,299. That is a $100 increase from the $1,099 and $1,199 starting prices of the iPhone 17 Pro models.

Apple has already raised prices on MacBooks multiple times this year. Tim Cook previously told the Wall Street Journal that further price hikes were “unavoidable” due to surging memory chip costs. The AI-driven memory and storage shortage has been a recurring factor across Apple’s product lines.

Both new Pro models are powered by the A20 Pro chip, which brings faster CPUs, GPUs, and a more capable neural engine.

Battery life gets a boost too. The iPhone 18 Pro offers 24 hours of charge, while the Pro Max pushes to 30 hours.

The camera system also gets an upgrade with a variable mechanical aperture that lets in roughly 50% more light in dark environments.

The Dynamic Island on the Pro models can now display up to three live activities at once.

AI Takes Center Stage

Apple Intelligence is baked into the new iPhone lineup. The upgraded Siri, now called Siri AI, can answer questions from your texts and emails, use the camera to interpret the world around you, draft emails by voice, and switch between expressive voice styles.

Apple Intelligence also integrates into Safari, where it can monitor web pages and alert you to changes.

Siri AI launches in English this month, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish support coming in October. Apple Intelligence will support 16 languages in total.

A new feature called “Apple Reference Images” is designed to verify whether photos were captured by a camera or generated by AI.

Apple also previewed “Siri Recap” for the new Apple Watch, which summarizes conversations, and “Live Rewind,” which lets users replay the last 15 seconds of a conversation. Apple said no audio recordings are created or stored.

The iPhone segment generated $209.5 billion of Apple’s $416.1 billion in total revenue in 2025.
