Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBY) stock climbed 2.7% on Thursday after the company announced the appointment of Jill Windrum as Chief Accounting Officer and Deputy Chief Financial Officer. The stock opened at $4.20, near its one-year low of $4.18.
Windrum comes with nearly 25 years of financial and accounting experience. She has spent more than a decade in public-company finance leadership roles.
Her background covers executive financial leadership, SEC reporting, M&A, and operational finance. That is a wide net, and BBBY clearly needed someone who could cover a lot of ground.
Most recently, Windrum held multiple CFO roles at Maxar Technologies. She led the CFO function for Maxar’s roughly $500 million U.S. Government business and separately its $1 billion Earth Intelligence segment.
She also stepped in as Interim CFO of Maxar during its acquisition by Advent International. At Maxar, now operating as Vantor, she led technical accounting and external financial reporting for over a decade.
Before Maxar, Windrum joined DHI Group as Vice President of Financial Planning and Analysis and Revenue Operations. She began her career at KPMG, where she served as a Director in the firm’s National Office Department of Professional Practice. She holds a CPA designation.
In her new role, Windrum will oversee the company’s accounting and financial reporting operations. She will also partner across the business on financial planning, controls, integration, and process improvement.
The hire comes as Beyond Inc continues integrating its businesses and working toward stronger financial discipline.
That context matters. BBBY reported a quarterly loss of $0.53 per share in its most recent earnings, missing the consensus estimate of $0.30 by $0.23. Revenue came in at $361.16 million.
The company posted a negative return on equity of 37.60% and a negative net margin of 7.13%. For the full fiscal year, analysts currently expect a loss of $0.92 per share.
Dimensional Fund Advisors raised its BBBY position by 49.4% in Q1, bringing its stake to 905,712 shares worth approximately $4.20 million, or 1.22% of the company. Institutional investors and hedge funds collectively own 76.3% of the stock.
On the insider side, Director Joanna M. Burkey sold 9,943 shares at $6.38 each on June 4th under a pre-arranged Rule 10b5-1 plan. Insiders hold 1.8% of the stock following that transaction.
BBBY’s 50-day moving average sits at $5.47 and its 200-day moving average at $5.34. The stock has a one-year high of $12.65 and a market cap of $310.55 million.
Wedbush raised its price target on BBBY from $8.00 to $10.00 and rates it “Outperform.” Wall Street Zen cut its rating to “Sell” on August 8th. The average analyst rating is “Hold” with a price target of $8.67.
