Cloudflare stock jumped more than 10% on September 9, 2026, trading as high as $309.00 intraday before pushing toward $313. The move came after the company launched a new AI-powered security service built in partnership with OpenAI.
The service is called Vulnerability Discovery and Remediation. It is available in early access through Cloudflare Managed Defense and runs on OpenAI’s Daybreak models, including GPT-5.6 Cyber.
The tool works by automatically scanning for high-risk software vulnerabilities, blocking attacks at the network edge, and generating code patches. It does this before security teams are typically notified of a problem.
The launch deepened Cloudflare’s relationship with OpenAI through what the companies call the Daybreak Defense Network. Investors responded positively to the expanded partnership.
Context helps explain the timing. The National Vulnerability Database had already recorded more than 60,000 software vulnerabilities by early September 2026. That figure surpassed the entire total from 2025.
Fresh regulatory filings showed larger stakes from institutional investors including HighTower Advisors and Virginia Retirement Systems. That buying activity reinforced the rally alongside the product news.
Cloudflare also recently added support for Cursor Cloud Agents and launched Adaptive Intelligence tools, further positioning the company as infrastructure for AI-heavy workloads.
The stock opened at $295.50 and hit a session high of $309.00. That move happened while the broader market slipped, with the S&P 500 down 0.3%, the Dow Jones down 0.8%, and the Nasdaq down 0.2%.
The rally was entirely company-specific. Peers like CrowdStrike, Zscaler, and Palo Alto Networks did not see comparable moves on the day.
One factor that drew attention was an insider sale. Cloudflare President and Co-Chair Michelle Zatlyn sold approximately $27.7 million in stock between September 3 and September 8.
The sale was made under a pre-arranged Rule 10b5-1 trading plan, which is a scheduled and disclosed arrangement. These types of sales are routine, but they tend to attract market attention regardless.
The stock is up 44.20% year to date. Average daily trading volume sits at around 3.4 million shares, and the company carries a market cap of approximately $99.3 billion.
Cloudflare reported 36% year-over-year revenue growth in its most recent quarter and raised its full-year outlook. The company still operates at a GAAP loss and continues to invest heavily in infrastructure.
No new analyst price targets were issued in connection with today’s move. The rally appears driven by the product launch, institutional flows, and broader confidence in Cloudflare’s AI positioning.
Technical sentiment on the stock is currently rated as a Buy.
