Eos Energy Enterprises (EOSE) jumped 12% on Wednesday after announcing a three-way collaboration with MN8 Energy and Google to build a solar and energy storage project in West Virginia.
Eos Energy Enterprises, Inc., EOSE
The project is being built on a reclaimed coal mine in Kanawha County. MN8 Energy will own and operate it under the name Mammoth Solar.
The setup combines 86 MW of utility-scale solar with two types of energy storage. Eos is supplying 10 MW/100 MWh of its Z3 zinc-based long-duration storage, while lithium-ion batteries will provide 70 MW/280 MWh of additional capacity.
Together, the system is designed to deliver clean, dispatchable power to the PJM grid around the clock, matching the load profiles of Google’s data centers in the region, including a planned facility in West Virginia.
Google will purchase the energy, capacity, and clean energy attributes generated by the project. It is part of Google’s push to bring new capacity to grids where it operates.
This marks Google’s first deployment of Eos’ American-made Z3 technology. It is also the first project to come out of the previously announced MN8-Eos Master Supply Agreement.
The Z3 system provides 10 hours of storage, stretching solar generation further into the day than standard lithium-ion setups can manage. It is also the first commercial-scale long-duration energy storage deployment in West Virginia.
The solar portion of the project is expected to reach commercial operation in 2028. Lithium-ion storage is set to follow in 2029, with the long-duration Z3 system coming online in 2030.
The project carries an estimated capital investment of up to $350 million. Over the first 20 years of operations, it is expected to generate around $4 million in property tax revenue for Kanawha County and local schools.
Construction is projected to create approximately 200 jobs, with additional full- and part-time roles expected during the project’s operating life.
Eos is headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where it also maintains its manufacturing operations, keeping supply chains regional.
The deal comes as data center operators face mounting pressure to secure reliable, clean power sources. Google has been actively investing in long-duration energy storage as part of its broader energy strategy.
Nathan Kroeker, Chief Commercial Officer at Eos, said the Z3 system “extends the value of clean generation across more hours, strengthens the overall portfolio, and delivers more dependable capacity when it’s needed most.”
MN8 CEO Jon Yoder said the project shows what happens when a customer like Google is “willing to pair next-generation storage with utility-scale solar.”
The 12% move in EOSE came on the day the deal was announced, September 2, 2026.
