The move was a big deal. UBS had been one of the most persistently bearish institutional voices on the stock, making this a meaningful shift in tone.

The upgrade came after a rough stretch for FLNC following its Q3 earnings miss in early August. Morgan Stanley, Roth Capital, and Citi all cut their price targets after the results. GLJ Research added a downgrade on August 20, piling more pressure onto an already battered stock.

At its worst, FLNC traded as low as $6.60 over the past year. That compares to a 52-week high of $33.51, giving a sense of how far the stock had fallen before Tuesday’s bounce.

What Changed for UBS

The core of UBS’s revised thinking is an updated financial model. The bank now forecasts Fluence Energy growing revenue at a 22% compound annual rate over the next five years through 2030.

The driver behind that outlook is rising demand for battery storage, particularly in hybrid solar-plus-storage projects. UBS sees that market expanding in a way that supports Fluence’s longer-term growth.

UBS also revised its adjusted EBITDA estimates for fiscal years 2026, 2027, and 2028. Critically, the bank concluded that some revenue expected in the current fiscal year had shifted into the next year, not disappeared entirely. That distinction matters to investors trying to gauge whether the Q3 miss reflected a timing issue or something more structural.

That reframing appears to have been enough to move the needle. Removing a formal Sell rating from a major institution tends to free up investors who were sitting on the sidelines.

Broader Market Added Tailwind

The general market gave Fluence a helping hand too. The S&P 500 was up 0.4% and the Nasdaq gained 0.8% during the same period, providing a favorable backdrop for the pre-market move.

That said, an 8.7% jump is not something a rising tide alone explains. The UBS upgrade was clearly the primary catalyst.

Fluence Energy still trades well below its 52-week high, and near-term challenges around execution remain. UBS moved to Neutral, not Buy, which keeps expectations measured.

The stock’s pre-market price of around $11.00 to $12.00 range puts it approaching UBS’s new $12.00 target already, suggesting the market quickly priced in the revised institutional view.
