Hyperliquid’s native token HYPE surged more than 19% on Wednesday after President Donald Trump said the CFTC is working to bring the decentralized perpetual futures exchange to the United States.

Trump made the comments at a White House meeting with crypto and technology executives. “I understand that Mike is also working to bring Hyperliquid into the United States in a fully compliant and legal fashion, working very hard on that,” Trump said, referring to CFTC Chair Mike Selig.

Hyperliquid is a blockchain-based exchange best known for perpetual futures, or “perps.” These contracts let traders bet on asset prices without owning them and have no expiration date. Users connect crypto wallets directly to the platform rather than going through a traditional broker.
The platform currently operates offshore and does not serve U.S. customers directly. Bringing it onshore would require meeting U.S. rules on registration, customer protections, and market oversight.
Trump did not outline what an onshore version of Hyperliquid would look like or what approvals would be needed. His comments do not mean the CFTC has approved the exchange.
The CFTC has been expanding its crypto derivatives approvals. It cleared Coinbase Derivatives to offer perpetual-style bitcoin and ether futures in April 2025. It also approved prediction market Kalshi to list the first U.S.-regulated Bitcoin perpetual contract.
The CFTC is holding its first IAC meeting on Thursday. The agenda includes discussion on bringing offshore platforms like Hyperliquid to the U.S.
The Hyperliquid Policy Center and its CEO Jake Chervinsky have been lobbying for a regulated pathway for on-chain perpetual futures in America. The group also sent a comment letter to the SEC pushing for onshore pre-IPO perpetual markets.
HYPE was trading around $70 at the time of the White House event, up over 19% on the day.
