Klarna stock fell as much as 20% in premarket trading Tuesday, then trimmed losses to around 14% as investors digested a mixed earnings report and two high-profile executive departures.
CFO Niclas Neglén and CMO David Sandström are both leaving the company. Neglén has been CFO for six years and Sandström has served as CMO for nine years. Both will stay on through early 2027 to manage the transition.
Klarna said the search for a New York-based CFO is already underway. No replacement for the CMO role has been announced yet.

The executive news came alongside Q2 earnings that were better than expected on the top line. Revenue hit $1.04 billion, up 27% year-over-year and above the $992.82 million analyst estimate. Adjusted EPS of $0.01 beat the consensus estimate of -$0.05.
Gross merchandise volume reached $36.6 billion, up 18% year-over-year. The number of merchants on the platform surged 54% to over 1.2 million.
Transaction margin dollars grew 42% year-over-year to $446 million, hitting 42.8% of revenue. Klarna raised its full-year transaction margin dollar guidance to $1.62-$1.65 billion.
Despite the Q2 beat, Klarna cut its full-year 2026 revenue guidance to $4.08-$4.16 billion. The midpoint of $4.12 billion came in well short of the $4.42 billion analyst consensus.
The company pointed to around $600 million in currency translation headwinds and softer volume expectations in Germany, its largest market by volume.
Q3 guidance also missed. Klarna expects third-quarter revenue of $940-$980 million, against Wall Street’s call for $1.11 billion. Adjusted operating income for Q3 is guided at just $5-$15 million.
Full-year adjusted operating income guidance of $280-$300 million was largely in line with prior expectations.
CEO Sebastian Siemiatkowski put the focus on consumer engagement in his prepared remarks. “Over 120 million consumers now use Klarna, and each is using it for more of their everyday spend. Revenue per active consumer grew 24%,” he said.
He also addressed the departing executives. “Niclas has built the finance organization that took us public and has been a trusted partner to me and the Board through six years of growth and change. David has given Klarna a voice.”
The combined weight of the guidance cut and leadership changes proved too much for investors. Klarna went public on the New York Stock Exchange earlier this year, and Tuesday’s drop marked one of the steepest single-day moves since its debut.
Klarna’s full-year transaction margin dollar guidance was revised upward to approximately 1.09% of GMV, compared to its previous outlook of greater than 1.04%.
