Lumentum Holdings (LITE) opened at $732.82 on Friday, sitting well below its 50-day moving average of $865.06, even as a wave of analyst upgrades brought fresh attention to the stock.
The stock gained 3.8% in a single session following those upgrades, but that bounce has done little to offset broader losses. LITE is still down about 16% over 30 days and 18% over 90 days.
That pullback comes despite what was a strong earnings report. In Q3 FY2026, Lumentum posted revenue of $808.4 million, up 90.1% year over year. EPS came in at $2.37, beating the $2.27 consensus estimate by $0.10.
For Q4 2026, the company guided EPS of $2.85 to $3.05. Analysts as a group are forecasting full-year EPS of $6.42.
The stock carries a P/E of 135.71x, which sits well above the US Communications sector average of 31.7x. That premium is at the center of the valuation debate right now.
The average analyst price target sits at $1,012.67, giving the stock roughly 38% upside from current levels. Of 21 analysts covering the stock, 14 rate it a Buy and seven rate it a Hold.
Stifel raised its target from $800 to $1,100 with a Buy rating. Northland Securities went to $1,200 with an Outperform. Jefferies also holds a $1,200 target. Citigroup reaffirmed its Buy rating Thursday and added LITE to a 90-day catalyst watch.
Zacks, however, cut its rating from Strong Buy to Hold on July 6th, and UBS continues to hold a Hold rating — two voices of caution in an otherwise bullish chorus.
One DCF model pegs fair value at $1,026.15 based on future cash flows. A separate, more aggressive model puts fair value at $5,085.95 — a figure that requires sustained and substantial revenue expansion over the long term.
Institutional investors now own 94.05% of LITE. Several new positions were opened in Q1, including Freemont Management S.A. at $8.29 million, Mediolanum International Funds at $2.87 million, and Hanseatic Management Services at $2.68 million.
On the other side of the ledger, insiders have sold $38.8 million worth of stock in the past 90 days. Director Isaac Hosojiro Harris sold 1,416 shares at an average of $1,000.08 on June 2nd, under a pre-arranged Rule 10b5-1 plan. SVP Jae Kim sold 1,422 shares at $953.95 in May, partly to cover tax obligations tied to equity vesting.
Lumentum has a 1-year low of $97.55 and a 1-year high of $1,085.68. The 200-day moving average sits at $710.76.
Citigroup’s 90-day catalyst watch is the most recent analyst action on the stock.
