MARA Holdings (MARA) jumped 15.54% to close at $11.15 on Thursday as Bitcoin broke back above $72,000 and President Donald Trump pushed Congress to accelerate passage of the Clarity Act.

Bitcoin has since climbed further to $75,000. The move pulled crypto mining stocks broadly higher, with MARA among the biggest winners on the day.
Trump hosted a crypto summit at the White House on Wednesday, which helped fuel sentiment going into Thursday’s session. The Clarity Act would split crypto oversight between the SEC and the CFTC, and its passage is widely seen as a positive for mining and treasury companies.
MARA holds 35,577 BTC as of the first half of 2026. That makes the stock a leveraged bet on Bitcoin’s price, and Thursday was a reminder of just how quickly that can move in either direction.
The Clarity Act remains stalled in the Senate due to political disagreements and opposition from the banking industry. A procedural vote is expected on September 15, which marks a key date for crypto-related stocks.
MARA’s Q2 results, released on August 6, showed the financial pressure the company is carrying. It swung to a net loss of $609.7 million, compared to net income of $808 million in the same period last year.
A $343 million loss tied to the fair value of digital assets was a major drag. That figure underlines how sensitive MARA’s financials are to Bitcoin’s price at any given moment.
Any sustained recovery in Bitcoin’s price could help reverse some of that damage in Q3 and beyond. The Clarity Act’s passage would likely be a tailwind for that scenario.
CEO Fred Thiel outlined a strategic shift during the Q2 update. MARA is expanding into AI infrastructure and digital energy, aiming to monetize its large power pipeline for enterprise AI hosting alongside crypto mining.
Thiel said the company is working to “redefine the future of energy” by developing technologies that reduce energy demands for high-performance computing, including AI applications.
Management describes the model as a vertically integrated digital energy and AI infrastructure provider, moving MARA beyond its pure-play Bitcoin mining roots.
Standard Chartered’s Geoffrey Kendrick, head of digital assets research, said traders should now be positioning for Bitcoin to reach $100,000 by year-end. That would represent roughly a 37% move from current levels.
Other mining stocks also moved higher on Thursday, including Riot Platforms, CleanSpark, Bitdeer Technologies, and Cipher Digital.
MARA was up 10.98% at $10.71 earlier in the session before closing at $11.15, according to Benzinga Pro data.
