Micron (MU) was trading up 3.21% at $950.54 in premarket Monday as broader risk appetite improved. Nasdaq futures were up 1.57% and S&P 500 futures gained 0.93%.
The move came the same morning China’s CXMT made one of the most eye-catching stock market debuts in recent memory.
CXMT raised 57.92 billion yuan — roughly $8.55 billion — after pricing its IPO at 8.66 yuan per share. The stock then surged more than 531% to around 54.60 yuan, valuing the DRAM maker at approximately 3.68 trillion yuan. That made it China’s most valuable listed company overnight.
The numbers are staggering, but Wall Street doesn’t seem too worried about what it means for Micron.
Analysts acknowledge CXMT could squeeze Micron in commodity DRAM — the kind used in phones and PCs. But that’s not where Micron is focused right now.
Milk Road AI analyst Melvin said concerns about Apple potentially switching to cheaper CXMT DRAM may be overstated. His argument: Micron has already pivoted toward high-bandwidth memory (HBM) for AI data centers, a segment where CXMT simply isn’t competitive yet.
CXMT is at least one generation behind in HBM. That gap matters a lot when hyperscalers are racing to build AI infrastructure.
Morningstar expects CXMT’s global DRAM market share to reach 10% in 2026. That’s not nothing, but the commodity end of the market isn’t where Micron’s margin story is being written.
Micron’s last quarterly report, released June 24, made that point clearly. The company reported $25.11 EPS, smashing the $21.39 consensus by $3.72. Revenue came in at $41.46 billion, well above the $35.91 billion estimate. That was a 345.8% increase year-over-year.
Cantor Fitzgerald has a price target of $2,000 on MU. Keybanc raised its forecast to $1,750 in July. Deutsche Bank, Bank of America, and Royal Bank of Canada have all lifted their targets in recent weeks, with most landing in the $1,500 range.
The stock’s average analyst price target across the board is now $1,548.86, with a consensus Buy rating from 30 analysts. Four have it as a Strong Buy. Only three have a Hold.
MU is up 727.82% over the past 12 months. It’s trading 34.2% above its 100-day moving average and 89.6% above its 200-day moving average. Near-term, the stock is slightly below its 20-day and 50-day SMAs, suggesting some consolidation is still playing out.
Institutional investors have been adding to positions. Troluce Capital Advisors raised its MU stake by 122.2% in Q1. Sei Investments added over 21,000 more shares in Q2.
Micron guided Q4 2026 EPS at $30–$32, and full-year EPS consensus sits at $72.93.
The company has a market cap of $1.04 trillion and a 52-week range of $103.38 to $1,255.00.
