NuScale Power jumped as much as 15.4% on Tuesday, September 8, reaching an intraday high of $11.37 before settling around $11.19. Volume hit roughly 53.6 million, a 74% jump above the average session level. The stock had closed at $9.70 the prior day.
NuScale Power Corporation, SMR
The rally came without any company-specific press release or analyst upgrade. Instead, it was part of a broader move across the small modular reactor space, which has seen repeated sector-wide bursts of buying throughout 2026.
Peer stocks moved sharply higher too. Oklo climbed nearly 5%, while Nano Nuclear Energy rose around 9.2% in the same session. The nuclear sector has been lifted this year by themes including AI data center power demand and bipartisan political support for advanced nuclear.
The broader market did not help. The S&P 500 fell 0.3%, the Nasdaq dropped 0.3%, and the Dow declined 0.9% on the day. The SMR sector was moving entirely on its own.
NuScale had been sitting near a 52-week low of $7.21, touched in July 2026. That left it more discounted than several peers heading into Tuesday’s session, which likely attracted catch-up buyers.
The company’s balance sheet offers some comfort. As of the end of Q2 2026, NuScale reported approximately $1.89 billion in cash and investments and carried no debt. That gives it a long runway even as commercial revenue remains nearly nonexistent.
The most recent quarterly earnings, reported August 5, showed revenue of just $0.07 million, down 99.1% year over year. The company posted a loss of $0.13 per share, which matched analyst estimates. Net margin came in at negative 3,888.7%.
Analysts expect a full-year loss of $0.64 per share for 2026.
Wall Street’s view on SMR is mixed. The stock carries a consensus “Hold” rating with an average price target of $13.50.
Barclays cut its target from $15 to $11 in July and rates the stock “Equal Weight.” Bank of America set a “Neutral” rating with a $12 target when it initiated coverage in May. Royal Bank of Canada lowered its target to $10 in August with a “Sector Perform” rating.
On the more bullish side, B. Riley has a “Buy” rating and a $15 target, set in August. Canaccord Genuity also rates it “Buy” with a $15 target.
Of 17 analysts tracked, one has a Strong Buy, four have a Buy, nine have a Hold, and three have a Sell.
The stock’s 50-day moving average sits at $9.09, and its 200-day moving average is $10.70. Market cap stands at around $4.81 billion following Tuesday’s move.
CFO Robert Hamady sold 29,880 shares on August 27 at $9.39 per share to cover tax withholding on vesting equity awards. COO Carl Fisher sold 18,771 shares on August 5 at $9.36 per share for the same reason.
