NVIDIA Corporation, NVDA

As part of the deal, Nvidia has invested $3.5 billion in convertible bonds issued by MediaTek. NVDA stock was down 4.57% on the day, trading at $217.55.

The investment is the latest in a pattern of Nvidia helping finance businesses that build products around its technology. That strategy supports growth in its AI ecosystem but has started to draw scrutiny from investors concerned about circular financing.

MediaTek will adopt the Nvidia NVLink Fusion platform as a core part of the deal. This allows customers to develop custom XPUs that can integrate into Nvidia-connected, rack-scale AI systems and data centers.

The NVLink Fusion platform supports multi-die XPU development. It includes the NVLink Fusion chiplet, NVLink-C2C for chip connectivity, Nvidia Rosa CPUs, and NVHBM for memory.

Three Areas of Focus

The partnership covers three main areas. On the infrastructure side, MediaTek will work within the NVLink Fusion ecosystem to help customers build custom AI chips that plug into Nvidia’s rack-scale systems.

For consumer computing, both companies will continue working on multiple generations of Nvidia RTX Spark and DGX Spark chips. These power consumer PCs, AI developer supercomputers, and enterprise workstations.

In automotive, MediaTek’s Dimensity Auto platforms integrate Nvidia technologies to deliver AI and RTX graphics for vehicle cockpits. These platforms can also work alongside Nvidia DRIVE AGX systems.

MediaTek previously collaborated with Nvidia on the GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip that powers the Nvidia DGX Spark. The two companies have now extended that work to include the RTX Spark for next-generation consumer PCs.

What the CEOs Said

Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s founder and CEO, said AI is transforming every computing platform, from large AI factories to the PC and the car. He described MediaTek as one of the world’s great semiconductor companies, citing its expertise in system-on-chip design and power efficiency.

Rick Tsai, MediaTek’s vice chairman and CEO, said the two companies share a vision for making advanced AI computing more widespread. He said Nvidia’s investment strengthens a collaboration that now spans cloud AI infrastructure, local AI computing, and automotive.

Nvidia unveiled the RTX Spark PC chip in June, developed in partnership with MediaTek, with the goal of redefining the PC for the AI era.

MediaTek stock, traded on the Taiwan exchange under ticker 2454, was down 1.51% on Monday.

The $3.5 billion convertible bond investment is one of the larger direct financial commitments Nvidia has made to a partner company in recent memory.
