24-Aug-2026 CoinCentral

TLDR

  • Nvidia is in talks to invest in AI startup Perplexity at a valuation of over $30 billion
  • The new round would value Perplexity more than 50% higher than its previous fundraise about a year ago, which valued it at around $20 billion
  • Perplexity’s annualized revenue has surged to over $750M, up from under $250M at the start of the year
  • Revenue growth is partly driven by Perplexity Computer, a cloud-based AI agent for automating professional tasks
  • Nvidia is already an investor in Perplexity, and the startup also counts Jeff Bezos and SoftBank (SFTBY) among its backers

Nvidia (NVDA) is in talks to lead or participate in a new funding round for AI startup Perplexity that would value the company at more than $30 billion, according to a report from The Information published Sunday.

The discussions involve a round potentially worth several billion dollars. No deal has been confirmed, with talks still ongoing.

If the round closes at the reported valuation, it would mark an increase of more than 50% from Perplexity’s last fundraise roughly a year ago, which valued the company at around $20 billion.

Nvidia is already a Perplexity investor, so this would deepen an existing relationship rather than mark a new one.

In July, Perplexity committed to using Nvidia’s new Vera CPUs to run its agent workloads, a sign of growing commercial ties between the two companies.

Other high-profile backers include Amazon (AMZN) founder Jeff Bezos and Japan’s SoftBank Group (SFTBY).

Revenue Surges Threefold in 2026

Perplexity’s annualized revenue has climbed above $750 million, up from less than $250 million at the start of the year. That is a threefold increase in under 12 months.

Part of that growth has been driven by Perplexity Computer, a cloud-based AI agent that helps professionals automate computer-based tasks.

The product is part of Perplexity’s push beyond AI-powered search and into agent software capable of handling more complex workflows.

The sharp revenue jump helps explain why investors are willing to back the company at a much higher valuation than before.

What This Means for Nvidia

For Nvidia, a fresh investment in Perplexity would expand its footprint across the AI software ecosystem, beyond its core chip and hardware business.

Nvidia stock (NVDA) was down around 0.98% at the time of reporting.

The company has made a number of strategic investments in AI startups as it looks to maintain influence across the full AI stack, from compute infrastructure to application-layer products.

Perplexity fits that profile as a fast-growing AI platform with expanding commercial adoption.

The Information’s report cited people with knowledge of the discussions, and neither Nvidia nor Perplexity has publicly confirmed the funding round or its terms.

Perplexity’s annualized revenue sitting above $750 million remains the most concrete data point from the report.
