Nvidia’s stock surged 8.7% on Thursday after the company posted blockbuster earnings and gave a revenue forecast that caught Wall Street off guard. The stock opened at $227.98 on Friday.
The company reported Q2 EPS of $2.22, beating the consensus estimate of $2.09. Revenue hit $96.22 billion for the quarter, up 105.9% year over year and ahead of analyst estimates of $92.27 billion.
The bigger story was the outlook. Nvidia guided for revenue growth of around 70% next fiscal year, well above the 45% Wall Street had expected.
Bloomberg Intelligence called the forecast “jaw-dropping,” saying it implies more than $100 billion of potential upside to current estimates.
JPMorgan added that the outlook is likely still conservative. The bank noted Nvidia “explicitly characterized the outlook as supply-constrained, with unconstrained demand pacing materially higher.”
The 8.7% move added $442 billion to Nvidia’s market value in a single session. That makes it the second-largest one-day market cap gain in stock market history, trailing only Microsoft’s $450 billion surge less than a month ago.
Nvidia itself previously held that record, adding $440 billion after President Trump announced a 90-day tariff pause in April last year.
The company also holds the record for the largest single-day market cap loss, when nearly $600 billion was wiped out following concerns over China’s DeepSeek AI model.
Nvidia is now the largest company in the world, with a market cap of around $5.52 trillion.
Sanford C. Bernstein raised its price target on Nvidia from $315 to $400 following the results, maintaining an “outperform” rating. Truist Financial lifted its target from $307 to $346 with a “buy” rating.
Across the board, 48 analysts rate the stock a Buy, two rate it a Strong Buy, and four have a Hold. The average price target sits at $322.61.
Institutional investors own 65.27% of Nvidia. State Street Corp holds over 991 million shares worth around $184.9 billion. Geode Capital Management holds over 588 million shares valued at around $109.4 billion.
On the insider side, Nvidia directors sold a combined 1.9 million shares worth roughly $410 million over the past 90 days.
The company’s board has authorized an $80 billion share buyback program. Nvidia also declared a quarterly dividend of $0.25 per share, payable October 1 to stockholders of record on September 10.
The stock’s 52-week range runs from $164.07 to $236.54, with a 50-day moving average of $207.95 and a 200-day moving average of $200.66.
