The ONDO token price rose more than 6% after the announcement. The token moved close to the $1 level after starting the week at $0.86.
The platform went live on the Ethereum blockchain first. Ondo Finance plans to expand to other networks including Solana, BNB Chain, and Ondo Chain later.
Investors from Asia-Pacific, Europe, Africa, and Latin America can use the service. US users cannot access the platform due to regulatory restrictions.
The tokenized assets include major stocks like Apple and Nvidia. The platform also offers the QQQ ETF and other popular investment options.
Each tokenized stock is backed by real securities held at US-registered broker-dealers. Investors can mint and redeem shares around the clock during trading days.
The tokens move freely between wallets, exchanges, and decentralized finance protocols. This gives users flexibility in how they store and trade their tokenized assets.
The platform provides the same economic returns as the underlying stocks. This includes price changes, dividends, and corporate actions.
Investors get 24/5 trading access through the blockchain system. Traditional exchange liquidity backs the tokenized versions.
Ondo Finance plans to grow the platform to over 1,000 assets by the end of 2025. The company will add support for Solana and BNB Chain using LayerZero technology.
The platform works with several major crypto infrastructure providers. Partners include BitGo, Ledger, Chainlink, Bitget Wallet, Trust Wallet, and OKX Wallet.
Nathan Allman, founder and CEO of Ondo Finance, compared the launch to stablecoins. He said the platform does for US securities what stablecoins did for the US dollar.
The launch joins other recent moves in tokenized equity trading. Robinhood, Gemini, Kraken, and other platforms have introduced similar services in recent months.
Coinbase and eToro have also announced plans for token-based stock trading. The trend shows growing interest in bringing traditional assets onto blockchain networks.
ONDO currently trades at $0.96 and remains one of the few tokens showing gains across all timeframes. The token has grown 60% year-to-date but still trades 54% below its $2 record high price.
