Snap stock bounced back 4.1% in pre-market trading on August 31, hitting $5.65, as investors returned to the stock after a steep legal-driven drop earlier in the week.
The recovery comes after Pennsylvania’s Attorney General filed a civil lawsuit against Snapchat on August 25. The complaint alleged the platform was deliberately built to hook minors, pointing to features like disappearing messages, infinite scrolling, and restorable Snapstreaks.
That headline sent the stock down roughly 9% on August 26. Monday’s move claws back a portion of those losses, though the stock remains well below its 52-week high of $9.28.
The rebound has a foundation to stand on. Snap reported Q2 2026 results on August 3 that came in ahead of expectations. Revenue grew 19% year over year to approximately $1.6 billion, and daily active users reached 493 million, both beating Wall Street estimates.
The per-share loss also narrowed. Management guided Q3 revenue to $1.7 to $1.74 billion, along with sharply higher Adjusted EBITDA.
Analysts responded positively. Barclays and Freedom Broker both raised their ratings and price targets following the print, citing better operating efficiency and a clearer path toward profitability.
The Pennsylvania lawsuit carries no specified damages amount, which leaves the financial exposure unclear. Snap also faces additional trials scheduled for October.
The comparison to Meta is one investors are watching closely. Meta settled child-safety allegations with 29 states for $17.1 billion. Snap’s balance sheet is considerably smaller, meaning any future settlement could carry more weight proportionally.
The broader market offered no support on the day, with the S&P 500, Dow Jones, and Nasdaq all trading modestly lower.
Today’s pre-market move suggests investors are starting to separate the Pennsylvania lawsuit from the underlying business momentum Snap built through its Q2 beat, even if the legal cloud has not lifted.
Snap’s 52-week high stands at $9.28, leaving the stock still well below that level as of August 31.
