TLDR

  • Spotify is launching a new fitness category in partnership with Peloton
  • Over 1,400 Peloton classes will be available to Spotify Premium subscribers globally
  • Classes include strength, Pilates, barre, yoga, and meditation

Spotify and Peloton announced a global partnership on Monday, bringing more than 1,400 Peloton fitness and wellness classes to Spotify’s platform. The classes are now embedded directly into Spotify’s audio and video ecosystem and available to Premium subscribers in most countries where Spotify operates.

The content covers a wide range of disciplines — strength training, Pilates, barre, yoga, stretching, meditation, floor cardio, and outdoor running and walking. Classes are currently available in English, Spanish, and German, led by Peloton’s roster of instructors.

For Spotify, this marks its first step into the wellness space. The company pointed to its own data to back the move: over 150 million fitness playlists are currently active on the platform, and nearly 70% of Premium users say they work out at least once a month.

“For nearly two decades, Spotify has been the soundtrack to the world’s workouts,” said Roman Wasenmüller, VP and Global Head of Podcasts at Spotify. “But listening was only the beginning.”

Peloton Eyes New Revenue Beyond Hardware

For Peloton, the deal is a continuation of its strategy to move away from a hardware-dependent business model. The company has been working to monetize its content library and instructor talent through third-party platforms.

Dion Camp Sanders, Peloton’s Chief Commercial Officer, said the partnership is “just our latest move to expand our reach and capture new revenue streams through Peloton’s unmatched experience, content and instruction.”

The deal gives Peloton access to Spotify’s massive global user base — hundreds of millions of Premium subscribers — without requiring users to own any Peloton equipment.

What’s in the Deal

The fitness category launches today and is live for Premium subscribers. Spotify said new content will be added to the library on a regular basis.

Neither company disclosed the financial terms of the agreement.

Peloton stock (PTON) was up 2.22% on the news. Spotify (SPOT) slipped 0.78%.

The partnership represents Peloton’s clearest move yet toward becoming a content business rather than a hardware one. Its classes, previously tied to its own app or equipment, are now reachable through one of the world’s most-used audio platforms.

Spotify’s new fitness category is live now across most of its global markets.
