The Semi will be unveiled at the IAA Transportation show in Hannover, Germany, which kicks off in mid-September. Tesla says it will confirm European on-sale dates and specs at the event.

The announcement comes just days after Einride, a Swedish logistics company, placed a 500-truck order earlier this week. That order helped set a positive tone heading into the weekend.

Tesla first revealed the Semi concept back in 2017. Production was supposed to begin in 2019 but was repeatedly delayed. It finally got underway at the Nevada factory in early 2026.

The Nevada plant has capacity to build 50,000 Semi trucks per year. At a price of around $300,000 per unit, that output could generate roughly $15 billion in annual revenue. Tesla is expected to pull in $106 billion in total revenue for 2026, according to FactSet.

Tesla argues the higher upfront cost of the Semi makes sense over time. Electricity is cheaper than diesel, and the company says operators can recover the price difference within a few years of running the trucks.

European Market Challenges

The European launch won’t be without competition. Volvo’s FH Aero Electric already offers 435 miles of range with a 780kWh battery. Tesla’s Standard Range Semi, which appears to be the version headed to Europe, carries a 548kWh battery and is rated for 342 miles.

Tesla says the Semi can charge at up to 800kW on its dedicated chargers, but it hasn’t announced any plans to build that charging network in the UK yet.

Zero-emission truck adoption in Europe remains slow. UK registrations of zero-emission trucks came in at just 171 units in the first half of 2026, down nearly 7% year over year. Second quarter numbers were slightly better, up around 5%.

Stock Still Under Pressure

Despite Friday’s gains, Tesla stock is down 23% for the year. Investors have largely moved on from EVs and are watching the company’s AI and robotics plays more closely.

Tesla launched its Cybercab robo-taxi service in Austin, Texas, in June 2025. The stock has been roughly flat since that launch, with investors waiting for the service to scale.

The company also recently shut down Model S and X production at its Fremont, California plant, converting that capacity to build humanoid robots. Mass robot production has not yet started.

Tesla recently teased a launch event for the Cybercab, which could signal plans to expand the robo-taxi service beyond Austin.

The stock is up about 1% for the week, with some of that lift coming from robo-taxi related news earlier in the week.
