RVMD is already up over 165% year-to-date coming into today, making this approval the latest milestone in what has been a strong run for the biotech.

The approval came months ahead of the expected timeline. The FDA only accepted the New Drug Application for review on July 22, making Wednesday’s green light a notably fast turnaround by regulatory standards.

Rasonque, the brand name for daraxonrasib, is a RAS inhibitor taken once daily. It works by targeting RAS proteins, which act as molecular switches inside cells and are a key driver of tumor growth in most pancreatic cancer patients.

The drug gained wider public attention after former Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse, diagnosed with late-stage metastatic pancreatic cancer last year, described it as a “miracle drug” after enrolling in a clinical trial.

The FDA had previously granted daraxonrasib Breakthrough Therapy Designation back in June 2025, followed by Orphan Drug designation and priority review status, all signals that regulators were moving quickly on this one.

Phase 3 Trial Data

The approval was backed by a Phase 3 trial of 500 patients, with results published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Patients on Rasonque lived a median of 13.2 months, compared to 6.7 months for those on standard chemotherapy.

Their risk of death dropped by 60%. More than half of Rasonque patients were still alive at one year, versus fewer than one in five on chemotherapy. The time before the disease got worse also roughly doubled, from 3.6 months to 7.2 months.

Acting FDA Commissioner Kyle Diamantas called the approval “a critical new option for patients facing an extraordinarily difficult and historically hard-to-treat cancer.”

Why This Market Matters

Pancreatic adenocarcinoma makes up 90% to 95% of the roughly 67,000 new pancreatic cancer cases diagnosed in the US each year. Despite accounting for around 3.2% of all cancer diagnoses, it is responsible for a disproportionately high number of cancer deaths due to late detection and limited treatment options.

Revolution Medicines first showed the drug’s potential in April, when Phase 3 trial results triggered a surge in the stock. A month later, the FDA issued a “safe to proceed” letter allowing the company to offer daraxonrasib to patients outside of a clinical trial.

The company is now testing Rasonque as a first-line treatment for pancreatic cancer and in other RAS-driven cancers including lung and colorectal.

On Wall Street, RVMD holds a Strong Buy consensus from analysts, based on 18 Buy ratings and 1 Hold. The average price target sits at $222.89, with the highest target at $291.
