Aave V4 Approaches $1B Deposit Milestone With New DeFi Architecture

10-Sep-2026 Crypto Economy

TL;DR:

  • Total deposits recorded on the official Aave V4 on-chain dashboard reached $806 million as of September 9, 2026, with peaks reported by the entity reaching up to $900 million.
  • The EtherFi Cash market represents the second-largest liquidity component within the new version, with $257 million allocated.
  • The previous version, Aave V3, maintains an operating base of $31 billion in deposits while liquidity migration progresses steadily.

So far in September, Aave has recorded a sustained increase in deposits for its V4 iteration, nearing the $1 billion mark. The protocol’s on-chain metrics dashboard placed user deposits at $806 million. These figures represent a 30% increase over a seven-day period, setting a record high for this version.

Meanwhile, internal metrics communicated by Aave placed total supplies above $900 million. However, independent trackers like DeFiLlama maintain an estimate closer to $399 million in strict total value locked (TVL) for this deployment, due to methodological differences in treating collateral assets and active loans.

The current acceleration follows the trajectory observed over recent weeks. Platform historical data shows that deposits crossed $500 million on August 19, 2026, before surpassing the $600 million threshold by the end of that same month.

Deployment of the Hub-and-Spoke Architecture and Collateral Management

Unlike the monolithic design found in earlier versions, this iteration introduces a layered model based on central and peripheral modules. Official documentation from Aave Labs indicates that this mechanism concentrates liquidity within a central core while borrowing environments operate in an isolated manner, defining their own risk parameters without fragmenting available capital.

According to Aave Governance’s technical report, this isolation mitigates systemic risk by preventing insolvency in a secondary asset from impacting the entire shared pool.

The economic engine features variable risk premiums that calibrate interest rates to the quality of the supplied collateral, moving away from uniform rates across all participants. Additionally, the liquidation engine replaced the fixed close factor with a target health factor model that incorporates dynamic bonuses.

The market tied to EtherFi Cash contributed $257 million to the platform’s current volume. Integrating synthetic yield instruments and real-world assets (RWAs) via the complementary Horizon infrastructure is part of the technical roadmap approved by the community through DAO voting.

Despite rapid adoption of the new deployment, Aave V3 retains the leading market position across the DeFi ecosystem, holding over $31 billion in consolidated deposits. Decentralized governance maintains conservative deposit caps on V4 to audit the resilience of live credit lines before approving further parameter expansions.

The protocol’s next milestone is set for the late September 2026 governance vote, where DAO delegates will review raising supply caps for stablecoins and integrating secondary markets across Layer 2 networks.
