TLDR

  • TRUMP token dropped 5% after Trump Mobile announced its T1 handset will begin shipping next week.
  • The token is already down nearly 90% from its all-time high.
  • The T1 phone appears to be a rebranded HTC U24 from 2024, according to The Verge.
  • Trump Mobile has not disclosed who manufactures the handset, though final assembly is confirmed to happen in the U.S.
  • The phone launch has not been treated by markets as a positive catalyst for the token.

The TRUMP memecoin slipped 5% after Trump Mobile confirmed its long-delayed T1 smartphone will ship next week. The token, which is officially tied to U.S. President Donald Trump, was already sitting nearly 90% below its earlier price levels before the latest drop.

Trump Mobile made the announcement this week, ending months of delays and limited customer support that had frustrated buyers. The T1 handset had been pushed back multiple times before the company finally gave a shipping timeline.

The phone itself raises questions. Trump Mobile operates as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator, meaning it does not design or build its own hardware. Instead, it partnered with an outside company to take an existing device and rebrand it with Trump-themed styling.

What Is the T1 Phone?

The Verge got hold of a T1 unit last month and reported that it “sure looks a lot like an HTC U24,” a device that launched in 2024. Neither HTC nor Trump Mobile confirmed the connection when asked.

Trump Mobile has said final assembly of the phone takes place in the United States, but the components originate overseas. The full manufacturing chain has not been disclosed.

This type of arrangement is not unusual in the phone industry. Solana did something similar when it launched its first Saga phone, which was a rebranded Osom OV-1.

How the Market Reacted

Binance News confirmed the 5% price drop, citing CoinDesk market data. The drop came directly after the shipping announcement, suggesting traders are not viewing the handset launch as a positive event for the token.

The TRUMP token’s overall decline of nearly 90% from its highs reflects a long period of falling interest since its initial launch spike.

For buyers of the phone, next week’s shipment would mark the first time the T1 moves from being a pre-order item to an actual product in hand.

Trump Mobile has not released updated sales figures or disclosed how many units are expected to ship in the first wave.
