Tesla, Inc. is drawing renewed market attention as the company prepares for its Cybercab launch on Thursday. TSLA stock gained about 1% overnight after rising 0.3% in the previous session, as investors focused on Tesla’s robotaxi plans, vehicle costs, and high valuation.
Tesla has not disclosed the full schedule or format of the Cybercab event, which it has promoted as “Exclusive Access: Cybercab.” The company began producing some Cybercabs in April and has tested the vehicles on public roads ahead of the launch.
CEO Elon Musk pointed to Cybercab’s possible cost advantage after a comparison showed that $1 million could buy eight Waymo vehicles at an estimated $125,000 each. The same amount could buy more than 50 Cybercabs at Ark Invest’s estimated $18,000 price.
Tesla investor Sawyer Merritt reported several Cybercab sightings in Austin and near Miami International Airport. He also said Tesla added 106 Model Ys to its Texas robotaxi fleet, raising the registered total to 420 vehicles.
Merritt shared a cost comparison from four unsupervised Model Y robotaxi rides covering eight miles. The rides cost $27.25 combined, while one 20-minute Uber trip cost $33, including a tip.
Gerber Kawasaki CEO Ross Gerber welcomed the Cybercab launch and said Tesla remains ahead of many automakers in software and hardware. He also praised recent progress in Tesla’s Full Self-Driving software after testing version 14.3.8.
Gerber said the system required fewer disengagements than earlier versions, but he still needed to intervene too often. His comments came as Uber announced about 3,300 job cuts while increasing spending on ride-hailing, delivery, and robotaxi operations.
Future Fund Managing Director Gary Black praised Tesla’s technology, manufacturing cost structure, and position in major growth markets. However, he also pointed to the company’s high valuation as a reason some investors may remain cautious.
Black said Tesla trades at about 220 times forward earnings, compared with projected long-term earnings growth of 35%. He argued that the valuation may discourage ownership but does not automatically support a short position. Thursday’s event could give investors more information about production targets, pricing, fleet growth, and future commercial deployment plans. TSLA stock remains closely tied to expectations around Cybercab, FSD progress, robotaxi expansion, and Tesla’s ability to turn its autonomy plans into a larger commercial business.
