Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi purchased 141,000 UBER shares early Thursday at an average price of $70.96, spending roughly $10 million of his own money. The buy raised his total holdings to 1.367 million shares, now worth around $100 million.
The Form 4 filing hit the SEC around 12:40 pm EDT and the market noticed fast. UBER jumped 3% within minutes of the filing and finished the session up 2.1% at $72.56.
What makes this filing unusual is the timing. Most insiders wait one or two business days before filing. Khosrowshahi filed the same day as his purchase, which is rare.
It is also his first open-market stock purchase since May 2022.
UBER has had a rough year. The stock is down 11% in 2026 and sits about 10% below its August high near $80. Investor concern has centered on the threat from autonomous vehicle operators, specifically Waymo and Tesla.
At current prices, UBER trades at roughly 11 times projected 2027 free cash flow and around 17 times 2027 GAAP earnings.
Khosrowshahi was not the only one putting personal cash into UBER this week. COO Andrew Macdonald bought 70,000 UBER shares on September 4 for about $5.3 million, spread across two trades at prices between $75.23 and $76.85.
That purchase came just days after Khosrowshahi announced on September 2 a plan to cut 10% of Uber’s global workforce. The layoffs were aimed at trimming middle management and redirecting cash toward growth priorities, including a $10 billion robotaxi program. The cuts brought Uber’s total headcount below 30,000 employees.
Two top executives buying millions in stock within a week of a major workforce reduction sends a clear message about where management thinks the stock price should be.
Analysts are firmly in the bull camp. UBER carries a Strong Buy consensus rating based on 30 Buy ratings and five Hold ratings issued over the past three months.
The average 12-month price target sits at $103.83, implying upside of around 43% from current levels.
Khosrowshahi’s $10 million purchase is the largest single open-market insider buy at Uber in years, and it came on a day when the stock was already trading near its year-to-date lows.
