Archer Aviation (NYSE: ACHR) shares jumped 11.18% on August 10 after the electric aircraft developer announced a major deal with Boeing.
The stock reached $6.22, while trading volume climbed to 76.59 million shares, more than double its daily average. ACHR also touched an intraday high of $6.87.
The deal gives Archer exposure to autonomous aircraft, defense drones and airspace-management software. It also brings Insitu into the company’s portfolio, adding a defense business with more than $200 million in annual revenue.
The agreement marks a major shift in Archer’s business strategy. The company has largely been known for developing electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft and pursuing the emerging air-taxi market. The Boeing transaction gives Archer additional operating businesses while it continues developing its eVTOL aircraft.
Archer will acquire Wisk Aero, Insitu and SkyGrid. Wisk specializes in autonomous electric aircraft, while Insitu operates in defense and intelligence drones.SkyGrid, meanwhile, provides airspace-management technology designed to support autonomous aviation.
Boeing will receive a 19.75% stake in Archer’s Class A shares before the transaction closes. The aerospace giant will also receive a seat on Archer’s board. The companies are expected to maintain a technology partnership, with Boeing retaining access to Wisk’s autonomous aviation technology.
Insitu could be the biggest immediate financial benefit for Archer.Archer generated $1.6 million in revenue during the first quarter of 2026. Insitu generates more than $200 million annually.
That difference highlights the potential scale of the acquisition. Based on the annual figure, Insitu’s revenue run rate would exceed $50 million per quarter.
However, that calculation is not an Archer revenue forecast. The actual contribution will depend on the transaction’s completion and subsequent integration. The deal could nevertheless reduce Archer’s reliance on the future air-taxi market by adding an established defense business.
Archer continues to face significant expenses. Operating cash outflows reached $149.1 million in the first quarter, while capital spending on property and equipment totaled $32.6 million.
Archer’s stock performance stood out among its eVTOL peers following the announcement.Joby Aviation gained just 0.35%, while BETA Technologies rose 1.62%. Boeing shares advanced 0.34%.Archer’s much larger move suggests investors were responding directly to the acquisition rather than a broader aviation rally.
The company ended the first quarter with about $1.78 billion in liquidity and reported a net loss of $217.7 million.Analysts were already relatively positive on ACHR before the Boeing announcement. Four recent ratings produced a median price target of $11.75.
Price targets ranged from $8 to $18, with three Buy ratings and one Hold. Those estimates, however, were issued before the transaction was announced. They therefore do not fully account for potential revenue gains, integration costs or dilution from Boeing’s stake.
