Visa (NYSE: V) stock held relatively steady as investors assessed the payments giant’s latest move to deepen its presence in the stablecoin market. The company is searching for a new settlement partner capable of operating across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Singapore, signaling that Visa is preparing to expand the role of digital assets within its global payments infrastructure.
The search comes as stablecoins increasingly move beyond cryptocurrency trading and toward mainstream payments, treasury management, and cross-border settlement. For Visa, the opportunity could extend its traditional card-network business into blockchain-based financial infrastructure while allowing institutions to move value around the clock.
According to documents cited by Tech in Asia, Visa is looking for a partner with cryptocurrency exchange licenses in four major markets. The prospective partner would support stablecoin swaps, settlement, and over-the-counter transactions, with regulatory coverage emerging as a central requirement.
The licensing criteria could significantly reduce the number of potential candidates. Crypto platforms may have substantial regulatory coverage across several jurisdictions but still lack authorization in Singapore, creating an additional hurdle for companies seeking the role.
The development also comes after Mastercard agreed to acquire London-based stablecoin infrastructure company BVNK earlier this year. That transaction highlights the increasingly competitive environment surrounding blockchain-powered payments, with major card networks seeking to establish positions before stablecoins become more deeply embedded in global commerce.
For Visa stock, the move could reinforce the company’s long-term strategy of remaining relevant as payment technology evolves.
Visa’s partner search follows the launch of its Stablecoin Platform, which gives institutional clients tools for managing treasury operations, settlement, liquidity, and related stablecoin activities.
Open USD is the first stablecoin supported through the platform. Visa has positioned the token as an open infrastructure product intended to give eligible customers greater flexibility in minting, burning, and managing digital-dollar assets.

The strategy represents a broader shift from simply accepting cryptocurrency-linked payments toward building infrastructure that financial institutions can use behind the scenes.
That distinction is important for investors. Stablecoins do not necessarily replace Visa’s existing payment network. Instead, blockchain-based settlement could potentially complement traditional rails by allowing institutions to transfer funds continuously and across borders without being restricted by conventional banking hours.
Mastercard’s agreement to acquire BVNK adds another layer to Visa’s latest move. BVNK has described its infrastructure as supporting stablecoin capabilities across Mastercard payment endpoints, including continuous settlement for payment processors and acquiring businesses.
Visa’s decision to seek another partner therefore comes at a time when competition between the two payments giants is expanding into blockchain infrastructure.
Rather than relying entirely on an existing stablecoin specialist, Visa appears to be evaluating which regulated crypto partner can provide the geographic reach and operational capabilities needed for its growing platform.
For now, Visa stock’s steady performance reflects a market weighing those opportunities against the challenges. The company’s latest partner search nevertheless suggests that stablecoins are becoming more than a side project for Visa. As competition with Mastercard intensifies, blockchain settlement could become an increasingly important part of the company’s broader payments strategy.
