Toncoin saw a sharp market reaction after Pavel Durov put Telegram at the center of The Open Network’s next growth phase. TON traded near $1.79 at the latest CoinGecko check, up about 26% over 24 hours, after reaching a daily range between roughly $1.41 and $1.90. Trading volume also surged above $860 million, with CoinGecko tracking a jump of more than 680% from the previous day.
The catalyst was Durov’s update that TON fees have already dropped sixfold, pushing transaction costs close to zero. He also framed Telegram as the next major force behind TON, with the company set to become the network’s largest validator and take a more direct role in its technical direction.
That shift matters because TON’s core investment case has always been tied to distribution. Telegram gives the network a consumer surface that most blockchains cannot match: messaging, mini apps, wallets, payments, bots, games, creator tools, and commerce flows already sit inside the same app experience.
Lower fees change the economic ceiling for Telegram-native payments and mini apps. If transactions cost almost nothing, small transfers, in-app rewards, micro-payments, gaming actions, NFT ownership, creator payouts, and DeFi interactions become easier to justify at scale.
The move follows the earlier TON performance upgrade that made the network 10 times faster, with sub-second transaction confirmation becoming the first step in Durov’s “Make TON Great Again” roadmap. The fee cut now gives that speed upgrade a stronger utility layer: fast transactions are more powerful when they are also cheap enough for everyday use.
TON’s design is already built around high-throughput consumer applications, while Telegram distribution reduces the onboarding friction that usually slows blockchain adoption. That is why the latest price move is not only a speculative reaction. Traders are pricing a larger role for TON inside a live consumer platform with nearly 1 billion users.
Telegram becoming TON’s largest validator would also change the network’s power balance. Stronger Telegram involvement can help developers trust the roadmap, attract app builders, and accelerate product rollouts across wallets, mini apps, payments, and stablecoin flows. It also creates a concentration question, because a larger validator role gives Telegram more visible influence over a network that still needs credible decentralization.
The next two to three weeks are expected to bring a refreshed ton.org website, new developer tools, and additional performance improvements. Those upgrades will matter because TON needs more than a strong token rally. It needs developers to build apps that hold users after the first wave of attention fades.
That is the core tension inside Toncoin’s surge. The token is up sharply, trading volume has exploded, and Telegram is moving closer to the validator and infrastructure layer. The stronger story now depends on whether near-zero fees and Telegram-native access can turn TON from a high-profile ecosystem into a daily-use payments and mini-app network, where value moves inside Telegram as easily as messages already do.
