Tokens were swapped at a 1:1 ratio, and MEXC said ZIL deposits and withdrawals resume on September 8, 2026, at 10:00 UTC

This follows Zilliqa's own hard fork on September 2, 2026, which shifted exchange balances from the legacy chain onto its EVM network as part of a wider overhaul.

What Did MEXC Announce About the ZIL Migration?

MEXC's official announcement confirms the migration from the Zilliqa mainnet to Zilliqa EVM is complete.

Old ZIL tokens are swapped 1:1 for the new EVM version, deposits for legacy tokens are no longer supported, and access resumes September 8, 2026, at 10:00 UTC on the exchange.

Why Is Zilliqa Going Through This Migration?

It traces back to a signing flaw in the Zilliqa Ledger application, which Zilliqa's official blog says the team disabled legacy transactions to contain on July 20, 2026

Rather than repair the older infrastructure, $Zilliqa chose to retire it entirely and move the network fully onto its EVM side.

On September 2, 2026, $Zilliqa executed a hard fork that reassigned ZIL balances at the protocol level for a first batch of ten exchange partners, including MEXC.

$Zilliqa said each exchange would then need to complete its own testing before restoring deposits and withdrawals.

What Changes for ZIL Holders on MEXC?

Old ZIL tokens no longer support deposits on the exchange, and $MEXC will not process further swaps for legacy ZIL.

Users are advised to confirm the token type before depositing, since the contract reference has moved to the $Zilliqa EVM block explorer.

Traders holding ZIL on MEXC do not need to take any action themselves, since the 1:1 swap already applied to exchange balances directly.

Is This the End of the Process?

MEXC's ZIL migration update covers only exchange-held balances on that platform.

Zilliqa's blog states a second hard fork is planned for mid-September 2026 to cover additional exchange partners, plus a self-custody migration tool, built on zero-knowledge proofs, for holders who keep ZIL in their own wallets.

$Zilliqa has also proposed a community vote on a token-supply adjustment to compensate holders affected by the earlier security incident, with details to be published on its governance portal once ready.

Expert Opinion

Market watchers note that $MEXC completing this step could ease near-term liquidity concerns for holders on the exchange, since deposits and withdrawals had been paused for weeks.

Analysts caution that the broader rollout is not finished, with a second exchange batch and a retail self-custody tool still pending, meaning ZIL price action may stay tied to related headlines through mid-September 2026.
