Aptos introduces Encrypted Mempool to improve privacy, stop frontrunning, and support secure institutional blockchain transactions.
Aptos Labs has announced a major privacy upgrade for its blockchain transactions. The company plans to launch a native Encrypted Mempool. This upgrade aims to protect user transactions from frontrunning and censorship.
The Encrypted Mempool conceals the information of transactions while ordering blocks. It decrypts them just before they are executed, though. Meanwhile, confirmed transactions will continue to be recorded on-chain as usual.

Developers will not have to switch to another network. Instead, these privacy features are built into the existing Aptos Layer 1 framework. Therefore, all Move-based apps can access the upgrade easily.
The upgrade also lowers risks for big investors and institutions. Hidden balances are used to shield users from being attacked by an attacker. This means that whales and high-value accounts are better protected.
Meanwhile, the system remains compliant with requirements. Wallet addresses will still be visible for KYC and AML checks. This balance ensures compliance with regulations and enhances privacy.
