Cronos is adding native USDC, EURC and Circle’s Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol, giving the Crypto.com-backed Layer 1 a stronger stablecoin base for trading, payments and app-level liquidity.

The Circle integration will bring Circle-issued USDC and EURC directly to Cronos, alongside CCTP support for native USDC movement across supported chains. Cronos currently supports bridged USDC, known as USDC.e, and the network plans to work with ecosystem apps and protocols to migrate liquidity toward native USDC over time.

The update gives Cronos a cleaner dollar and euro settlement layer. Native USDC is redeemable 1:1 for dollars through Circle, while EURC is designed for 1:1 euro redeemability and MiCA-aligned euro settlement. That matters for applications that need deeper stablecoin pairs, lower slippage and direct issuer-backed assets rather than relying only on wrapped liquidity.

Circle said native USDC will serve as the dollar settlement layer for the Cronos app, where users are expected to trade tokenized stocks, crypto, prediction markets and other assets from a single account. The integration is also expected to support Circle Mint access for eligible institutional users, including fiat onramps, withdrawals and API access.

CCTP Cuts Reliance On Wrapped USDC

CCTP is the main infrastructure piece behind the bridge-free angle. Instead of locking USDC on one chain and issuing a wrapped representation on another, Circle’s Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol burns native USDC on the source chain and mints native USDC on the destination chain.

That design reduces the liquidity fragmentation that often builds up when each chain depends on separate bridged versions of the same dollar asset. It also gives market makers and applications a more direct route for moving native USDC between ecosystems without treating a third-party bridge token as the primary settlement asset.

Cronos needs that structure if it wants to support several asset classes inside one trading app. Tokenized stocks, crypto spot markets and prediction markets all depend on quote liquidity that users trust, can move quickly and can settle across chains without turning every transfer into a bridge-risk decision.

The same stablecoin-infrastructure race is already visible elsewhere. Hyperliquid’s USDC balance recently surpassed $4 billion as native and bridged dollar liquidity became central to collateral, settlement and market making, while Coinbase’s role in Hyperliquid’s USDC treasury rollout showed how issuer and exchange infrastructure is moving closer to protocol-level market design.

Tokenized Assets Need Deeper Stablecoin Rails

The Cronos update lands as tokenized stocks and other real-world assets move from niche products into heavier exchange and wallet distribution. Solana’s tokenized stock market recently hit record volume, and Coinbase has launched 1:1-backed tokenized U.S. stocks as major platforms test how equity exposure can settle inside crypto rails.

Stablecoins are the working capital for that shift. Tokenized assets may provide the exposure, but USDC, EURC and other settlement tokens provide the cash leg for deposits, withdrawals, collateral movement, market making and portfolio rotation.

EURC adds a second currency layer for Cronos. Euro-denominated stablecoin liquidity can support European users, euro pairs, payment flows and settlement products that do not need to route every trade through dollars first. That gives Cronos a stronger multi-currency base as MiCA-regulated stablecoin activity becomes more important across Europe.

The Cronos launch now gives the network native Circle-issued USDC and EURC, CCTP-based cross-chain USDC transfers and a planned migration path away from bridged USDC.e liquidity. The next practical test is whether Cronos apps, market makers and institutional users move enough liquidity into the native stablecoin stack to support tokenized stocks, crypto markets and prediction-market trading at scale.
