SoFi Technologies (SOFI) climbed 4.3% to $18.42 on Wednesday, touching an intraday high of $18.72, as fintech stocks broadly bounced back on a favorable bond-market catalyst. The move appeared sector-driven, lifting peers like Upstart and Affirm alongside SOFI.
Trading volume came in at around 41 million, well below the average session volume of roughly 69 million.
The stock had closed the prior session at $17.66. It sits within a one-year range of $14.88 to $32.73.
SoFi posted Q2 revenue of $1.21 billion, comfortably ahead of the $1.11 billion analyst estimate. That represents 42.5% growth compared to the same quarter last year.
EPS came in at $0.12, a penny above the consensus estimate of $0.11. A year ago, the company earned $0.08 per share.
Quarterly loan originations hit a record $14.8 billion, pointing to strong lending demand. The question analysts are watching is whether SoFi can maintain that pace without letting credit quality slip.
The company has guided for full-year 2026 EPS of $0.60. Sell-side analysts, on average, expect $0.61 for the fiscal year.
Piper Sandler recently initiated coverage with an Overweight rating and a $22 price target, noting that products are growing faster than the member base. That kind of cross-sell momentum is central to SoFi’s business model.
The overall analyst picture is split. Eight firms rate SOFI a Buy, ten say Hold, and three say Sell. The consensus target sits at $22.42, implying upside from current levels.
TD Cowen has a $18 Hold target. Morgan Stanley is more cautious, with a $15 Underweight rating. On the bullish side, Needham has a $24 Buy target and Stephens holds an Overweight with a $25 target.
Mizuho cut its target from $29 to $22 but kept an Outperform rating after the last earnings report.
Truist nudged its target up from $18 to $19, keeping a Hold.
The stock’s 50-day moving average is $17.61 and the 200-day sits at $17.71. Technical analysts have flagged resistance near $20.13, which could attract momentum traders if the stock continues higher.
On the institutional side, BlackRock took a new stake worth roughly $1.3 billion in Q2. Bank of America added a position worth around $164 million in the same period.
Insiders, however, have been selling. The CTO sold over 102,000 shares in June, and an EVP sold nearly 11,000 in July. Both transactions were done under pre-arranged 10b5-1 plans.
Institutional investors and hedge funds currently own 38.43% of SOFI stock.
The company carries a debt-to-equity ratio of 0.30 and a market cap of around $23.79 billion.
