The theater operator posted adjusted earnings of 14 cents per share for Q2 2026 — a big swing from Wall Street’s expected loss of 4 cents. Revenue came in at $1.59 billion, up 14% year-over-year and ahead of the $1.5 billion analyst consensus.

Adjusted EBITDA climbed to $321.4 million, up roughly 70% and the first time that figure has cleared $300 million in company history. Free cash flow reached $190.1 million for the quarter.

Operating cash flow turned sharply positive, swinging from -$231.6 million in Q2 2025 to +$106.9 million this quarter — a turnaround of more than $338 million.

CEO Adam Aron called the results “extraordinary,” saying they reflected the company’s “relentless focus on delighting guests” after years of slow recovery from the pandemic.

Box Office Powers the Rebound

Attendance rose nearly 14% in the quarter. Over the weekend alone, more than 4.3 million moviegoers attended AMC theaters worldwide, with Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey driving much of the foot traffic.

Food and beverage revenue at U.S. locations was the strongest in more than a year, adding to the top-line beat.

The strong box office environment in 2026 has been a key driver across the sector. Macquarie raised its full-year 2026 industry box office forecast ahead of the print, and Texas Capital upgraded AMC to Buy from Hold just days before earnings were released.

Sector peers moved alongside AMC on the news. IMAX advanced 4% while Cinemark Holdings rose 0.3%.

Balance Sheet Work Paid Off

AMC had used a $200 million equity offering to retire near-term debt and push major maturities out to 2029, which reduced balance sheet risk heading into this earnings report.

AMC is still widely known as a meme stock, alongside GameStop and others, with price moves often tied more to retail sentiment than business performance. Monday’s move, however, appeared driven by genuine fundamental results rather than social media momentum.

The broader market was also in a positive mood, with the S&P 500 up 0.4%, the Dow up 0.3%, and the Nasdaq gaining 0.75%.

AMC stock was trading at $2.25 in pre-market, up 16% on the session.
