Ryanair has inked a five-year deal with Google Cloud, bringing Gemini AI and DeepMind models into the heart of its airline operations. RYAAY stock was trading down 0.24% and Alphabet (GOOG) down 3.61% on Wednesday as the news landed.
The agreement will see Google Workspace and Google Cloud services deployed to 35,000 Ryanair employees across its network.
Ryanair CEO Eddie Wilson said the airline needs “excellent infrastructure resilience” to support its growth ambitions. The carrier is targeting 300 million passengers annually by 2034.
The deal adds to Ryanair’s existing relationship with Amazon Web Services. The two-cloud approach is designed to cut the risk of technology outages disrupting operations.
Ryanair will use Gemini Enterprise to build custom AI agents. These agents will automate certain decisions, improve crew scheduling, and help reduce disruption for passengers.
The airline will also tap into Google DeepMind models, specifically AlphaEvolve and WeatherNext. These will support fleet operations and maintenance scheduling.
AlphaEvolve and WeatherNext are DeepMind tools focused on optimization and weather forecasting respectively. Applied to an airline, that means smarter maintenance planning and fewer weather-related surprises.
Google Cloud’s vice president for the UK, Ireland and Sub-Saharan Africa, Maureen Costello, said the agreement shows how “generative AI at scale can help industry leaders scale securely, reduce operational costs, and redefine the travel experience.”
The rollout to 35,000 staff makes this one of the broader enterprise AI deployments in European aviation.
The wider aviation sector has been steadily adopting AI across customer service, operations, and maintenance. Studies from aviation technology provider SITA and airline trade body IATA have tracked this trend.
Airlines are chasing efficiency and reliability gains, and AI tools are increasingly central to that effort.
Ryanair’s move puts it alongside other carriers looking to technology to manage the complexity of running large-scale operations.
Financial terms of the Ryanair-Google Cloud deal were not disclosed.
